This is everything a how-to book ought to be. Clear instruction, illustrations, commentary on the role of cunnilingus in society and in the bedroom, and as an added bonus, a scattering of erotic short stories by Alison Tyler.
Cleis Press has a number of these Ultimate books, all very good, but Violet Blue's Ultimate Guide to Cunnilingus is the best. The combination of practical advice and the enthusiastic, sex-positive tone of the book make it a pleasure to read. It supplies a lot of information that will serve the novice pearl-diver well (for instance, with detailed maps of female anatomy and ways to introduce the idea of cunnilingus to a partner) and give the veteran oral performer some new strategies and techniques (like how to give or receive a comfortable and fun pussy shave, and loads of new positions for both partners). There are also thorough chapters on safe sex and tips on enhancing the experience.
Blue prefaces the exhaustive advice and instruction with the same psychological approach that makes all Cleis guide books so good. She approaches questions that both partners, receiver and performer, might have, quelling fears, raising enthusiasm, and dealing with the subject of cunnilingus in an intelligent and accessible way.
The features that make this book stand out from others in the series are the more frequent illustrations, charming and explicit, by Molly Kiely, and the short stories by Alison Tyler. Yes! It was good to read a nice juicy chapter full of new ideas I'd like to try out with my own junk and then reading a dirty story showing me just how it might go. Getting the reader to invest time and attention in learning new things is easier if they get a nice salty tale from Tyler from time to time. It's an awesome idea, one I haven't seen before, and one that I hope will be picked up.
This book is great for anyone who has a pussy or who likes to spend time with people who have pussies.
