While Taormino emphasizes that there should be no pain in anal sex, she also accepts that some find the most sensuality through pain and insists that those who pursue bondage, dominance, sadism, masochism be careful and not push their bodies too hard.

The same precautions and judgments that one makes in regards to vaginal sex should also be taken into account for anal sex. Lubrication, protection, toys, hygiene, and being mindful of what stimulates your partner are all important for an enjoyable experience by all. The information that Taormino provides makes the second edition of The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women seem more like a general sex education book than one that focuses solely on anal sex. Don’t let the title fool you. The content doesn’t make this a book geared towards women only. Men become more educated and learn how to further enjoy anal sex with their female partner as well.

The second edition of The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women is an invaluable resource for both those curious about anal sex and those who are already experienced. The first edition is still one of the most comprehensive volumes on anal sex out there, but the second one follows in its traditions, answering questions that can seem embarrassing when, in truth, many people have experienced some of the same trials.

Taormino initially wrote The Ultimate Guide because the information available on this subject was not substantial. While more titles have been published since then, they are still not as comprehensive as this guide. By covering everything from the various kinds of enemas available, diseases that can spread sex, methods for anal masturbation, various types of butt plugs, how to properly clean sex toys, and anal fisting, Taormino’s friendly and insightful personality transcends on the page, educating her reader while at the same time confirming that no one should consider themselves abnormal for enjoying a common sexual act.
