With a look and style that obviously bites off of (or pays homage to, for those of you who like to think optimistically and aren’t a drop jaded) Burning Angel and Suicide Girls, director/producer/editor Blaise Christie’s ElectroFilms.com doesn’t initially shock, or even stun, as it flies the cleverly concocted “Nue Wave Porn” flag. Without any background info or press release, I felt obliged to track down this mysterious Mr. Christie. I found his MySpace profile, and other facts that pieced together this overly intriguing puzzle five goggled seconds later.
Apparently, as of this review, ElectroFilms.com is a newly launched creation that’s also the flagship site of another site called AltPornBucks.com which in turn, sponsors sites of the Alt-Porn niche and the webmasters who master them. If this was posted on Christie’s site in the first place, I wouldn’t have gotten the first impression that I was looking at some half-cocked, overpriced poseur in punk-porn clothing, which I guess you can also look at it as being “punk” of him to begin with. But, I’ll skip the semantics.
The small stable of disappointed, drowsy, serious-looking and heavily eye-shadowed chicks here, are captured in a series of high-quality photos that essentially find them taking cigarette breaks, stripping, sitting around and dipping multi-knobbed glass dildos into themselves. The settings are all minimal with limited lighting and lots of shadows, and are reminiscent of that same amateurish, underground, sleazy-looking, handheld camera style that I appreciated on KaneArmy.com. The screen caps are decent, except for a lot of blurry ones that look like greasy lube was smeared over the lens.
The Windows Media/QuickTime video section collects some of Christie’s short films, which are the highlight of the experience. While “Sex and Ultraviolence” is a straightforward hardcore demonstration of rough love with a haunting audio monologue book-ending it, “Hollywood, CA” is a dream-like episode starring a dark-haired Jessica Simpson doppelganger seductively caressing her full natural breasts and pretty pink vag, as a moody, perfectly paced keyboard-based soundtrack drifts throughout the background and adds a noirish element to the proceedings. “Neo Cowgirl Blues” features blonde hottie Carli Banks, who extracts a set of anal beads while the bent and broken notes of a Radiohead-esque melody trickle and chime down around her. In “Saigon ’88,” Christie juxtaposes quick-cuts, jerky jumps and in-and-out-of-focus fades as subliminal glimpses of static and white noise disappear as quickly as they appear, and Tia Tanaka’s movements are accented by blips, beeps, bloops, chirps, sizzles, atmospheric techno samples and other video game-like noises.
Through the scattering of chatter that can be found throughout the 'net about him, it appears as if Blaise Christie is being heralded as an alt-porn artist of messianic proportions. With his uniquely original “Nue Wave” style, this self-confirmed “King of Smut,” will likely be savoring a surge in royal subjects as his site continues to grow, and he raises both the bar and the wattage.
