Wet Room is a combination of two things that I don’t take too seriously. The first is Ninn Worx, Micheal Ninn’s production company that tries to blend porn with high art and fashion, and squirting. Ninn himself has some talent, but the directors he hires to expand his production company misfire trying to define “artcore,” a word Ninn coined.
As for squirting, it’s either convincing and works or it falls short. There is not a lot of female ejaculation that one can classify as “mediocre” or “lackluster.” Where does Wet Room stand?
It starts on the wrong foot entirely. The first scene features Cytherea and Jenna Presley in a dramatically lit room. The blue/green background reminds the viewer of water, and if that doesn’t work, there is the constant drip of water in the center of the set. I suppose it was supposed to be something like a waterfall, but the audio reveals it for the drip it is. The actors have to get inside a kiddie pool-like set to do their fucking. Light plays off the water in interesting ways because it’s lit from above, but this is not a good thing. All the action takes place in the middle of this kidde-pool drip and the squirting can rarely be distinguished. Cytherea does best towards the end of the scene when she squats and masturbates while Presley has sex with Jay Lassiter cloaked in a Zorro mask and a tight latex shirt that says “PIG”).
Cytherea is a great squirter and notable as a porn star – 2005 AVN’s Best Newbie – because her orgasms look real right down to trembling muscles and weak knees. Although she’s the narrator of Wet Room and pops up occasionally in the background, her special talents are compromised by the incessant drip. The scene lasts a painfully long 40 minutes, but manages to end on a high note with both female stars squirting on Lassiter’s masked face.
Scene two has some nice DP by the mysteriously likeable Missy Monroe. I say “mysteriously” because she squirts less than the other stars, and has sex just like a lot of pros, but for some reason I enjoyed her presence. Her scene opens with the “artcore” watering of inflatable flowers that transitions from black and white into vibrant color. Ben English and Marco Banderas give fine performances though they are forced to wear aesthetically unpleasing goggles.
The film rounds out with Angela Stone’s scene, the saving grace of Wet Room. Cytherea may be the only star with her name on the cover, but Stone is squirting queen on this DVD. First off, she’s a gorgeous blonde. Second, although the drip returns to bookend the film, Stone stays to the side of it, making the most of the overhead lighting. Her first orgasmic squirt comes directly at the camera and in buckets. Cytherea is in the background, and in an accidental “passing of the torch” the hanging seat she is sitting in falls apart as Stone finishes her introductory waterfall.
I can hear my editors telling me now that a good portion of this review dealt with the set, the costumes and the lighting. “People don’t watch porn for the lighting” is the motto us reviewers have had pounded into our heads, and it’s true: Porn is watched for the sex. However, with the two Ninn Worx productions I’ve sounded off on, the style has overshadowed the porn. In this case, the stylized set effected the quality of the first and longest scene of a special interest porn. People buy Wet Room expecting to see some high-quality, high-budget squirting, but the “artcore” jeopardizes it. WetRoom
