Adam and Eve Pictures adult reality contest The Search for Adam and Eve, The First Season is like watching a misguided attempt at reality television via the adult industry. The shows concept is similar to American Idol, without the phone-in votes, complete with horrible audition footage, unnecessary and often cruel judge banter and 12 contestants working to strut their stuff for the camera.
The seven episode series comes to the viewer by way of a two-DVD set. The cover boasts a naked and limberly posed Carmen Luvana and thumbnail photographs of potential contestant. The cover art sells “uncut” adult action and the “ultimate amateur competition” what the viewer gets however is at times a great behind the sense look at how porn is made and nothing else.
Disc one provides footage of a four city(New York, Las Vegas, Miami, Tampa) audition process conducted by Carmen and a revolving door of mostly unrecognizable celebrity judges. The audition footage is not interesting enough to devote a whole disc to, it becomes stagnant and repetitive, the contestants are asked the same questions and all answer with varying similarity, the producers were clearly reaching for an American Idol behind-the-scenes quality that unfortunately fell flat.
Besides the audition footage, disc one provides the viewer with an insider's look at an AVN convention and a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the debauchery that takes place during the AVN awards weekend. These brief glimpse are the most compelling part of disc one. The viewer gets to witness the convention from the stand point of the series star Carmen Luvana, and we also get a glimpse into her pre-awards show ritual.
A better idea for disc one would have been Luvana doing a documentary style behind the scenes perusal of the life of an adult film actor as a set up for the contest. Saving the audition footage for a 30-second introduction to the 12 contestants would have moved the action along smoother and made for better viewing. Another highlight of disc one are the two hot and sexy Carmen Luvana scenes thrown in for your viewing pleasure. Like Luvana, they are smoking!!!
Disc two is the gem of the set, the viewer gets a true insiders look of the adult film world. The contestants are flown to one of the most sexually provocative places on earth Hedonism in sunny Jamaica, and are presented with numerous challenges. They are appraised by looks, performance, and raw sexual talent by a three judge panel. The officiates are often acidic and malicious with their off set commentary, and it distracts from the actual competition. The sexual challenges are far more complex than one would realize and the perils of the competitors such as unfortunate menstruation and temporary male frigidity are painfully real. The actual on the set sexual action is where the viewers see the contestants at the most vulnerable and it saves the series from total abomination.
This being reality television there is much alluded to drama with the contestants; a horny bunch that do not save the sexual shenanigans for the camera. The confusion with the behind the scenes friction is that it is often talked around but the viewer never sees it. The only reality show drama comes from a contestant named Amber who decides after the first night that she is no longer interested in competing and is pushed into a confrontation by the series host and the producers. Britney is another contestant drowning in controversy unfortunately we are never given a clear picture of what it actually is.
The shinning star of this film is the peek into how hard porn actors work to make sex look believable and masturbation worthy. The viewer receives a deeper appreciation for the positions and concentration, also learning words like pop(cum) and elongate(stay hard) along the way.
The Search for Adam and Eve is not a hot masturbation film. Any viewer who comes to this garden looking for Sodom and Gomorra will be let down; however if you come to the garden looking for a how to kit, you will not be disappointed.
