Lacking any sense of primal abandon, Madness Pictures’ latest film “Sweet Grind” is, quite frankly, formulaic, unimaginative and very predictable. An experienced pornophile will be able to accurately predict how certain scenarios will develop, and what positions will be used, because nothing extraordinarily perverse or subversive actually happens. It seems to be one of those typical porn films that we’ve all seen before, relentlessly filmed by innumerable sutdios. Although the cast members are hot and know how to work it, there doesn’t seem to be much desire or passion to the sex. Several characters throughout the movie spend their time picking up escorts. And even stranger is that the last line spoken in the movie is Jay Ahsley saying “Are ya gonna pay me now?” It appeared as if there wasn’t an attempt to strive for something intelligent or artistic throughout this film.
Besides that, there were other problems with the film. At various points, the dialogue varied between being stupid and hilariously laughable. In the scene between Cheryl Dynasty and Lee Stone, Stone plays a sort of sleazy psychologist to Dynasty’s role as an even sleazier little girl. The dialogue between the two was so hilarious that I almost forgot that they were fucking. At one point, Stone asks Dynasty to talk dirty to him – but there’s one problem: she’s got his dick in his mouth. Did Stone somehow forget that his dick was in Dynasty’s mouth? Then, Dynasty actually asks Stone (while he’s fucking her ass), if she could taste her ass on his dick! I don’t know about you, my dear pornophiles, but that somehow sounds more revolting than it should be. To make matters worse, both Stone and Dynasty sound as if they were blatantly faking it, varying between cartoon characters and painful screams that made looking at them fucking an awkward experience. The scene between April and Sunrise Adams should have been much hotter than what it was in the film: the oral sex felt too long and too one sided. And although a close up shot of Adams going down on April is not only necessary but also important, I don’t think the camera should spend an extraordinary amount of time on it. It seems much more important in my mind to see and hear as they get off. The double penetration scene between Bryon Long, Aurora Snow and Joel Lawrence also should have either been much hotter or cut altogether as it did very little for the film as a whole. Byron Long at various points seemed to be a bit bored and listless which is a major turn off. But the major problem with the scene is that it felt long – often taking way too long to change positions. And I can’t stop thinking that there’s something inherently gay about double penetration, watching two guys whose nuts repeatedly slap against each other.
The two hottest scenes of the movie involved Jay Ahsley, Felix Vicious, Kristina Black and Julien. Admittedly, these scenes possess various flaws – the actual penetration scenes between Black and Julien take a long time to develop and there were way too many close up shots of Julien’s face between Black’s legs. Their scene seems to end on a rather abrupt note that kept me wondering, “Did they come yet?” The Ahsley and Vicious scenes were over-edited, and depended on an overload of dissolve cuts to emphasize both progression and that the film needed to get to an end.
There are design flaws that are particularly vexing. The cover advertises several things that just simply couldn’t be found on the DVD. The “Behind the Scenes” footage was nowhere to be found, nor the pop-shot on demand technology. In some way, it seems as if pornophiles would be getting ripped off. Despite it all, the film is one of those slightly below average to average porn films, doing its job in a more or less effective manner. SweetGrind Email this review to a friend
