Sweatshop from Wicked Pictures 2004 is the closest thing to a legitimate drama the erotic film industry has ever produced. Stellar production values, an uncharacteristically fine script, and excellent performances by all the principle actors combine to help make this a movie that would be worth watching without the explicit sex. The fact that several of the scenes are incredibly hot is just an added bonus.

Sweatshop tells the story of a recently immigrated Chinese girl, Jen, working in the less than reputable world of garment manufacturing and struggling to bring her family over from China. The role is very well played (even by non-porno standards) by relative new-comer (no pun intended) to the Wicked scene, Kaylani Lei. Lei is a very petite but stunning starlet who is as at home delivering dramatic non-sexual script as she is bucking and weaving sinuously while one of her cohorts fills her particularly beautiful snatch.

The odious boss, Jack, played evilly by Randy Spears, is manipulating Jen and her coworkers, extorting sexual favors from them in exchange for empty promises to help them bring their families to America.

All this changes when the factory owner dies, leaving ownership to his estranged nephew and all-around good guy, Daniel (Stephen St. Croix). I won’t spoil the rest, but suffice it to say it is a sweet love story, made better by the fact that St. Croix and Lei have excellent chemistry.

The sex is also very fine. The counterpoint between the vaguely mechanical scenes involving Spears and the workers, and the sweet, romantic eroticism of the scenes between characters who feel for each other is artistic and striking. All of it is hot, and well shot by Director of Photography, Jake Jacobs.

Director Brad Armstrong and writer Tommy Chong deserve special note for working so many different sexual scenarios into a still tight script.

Don’t forget to check out the stunningly hot lesbian three-way between Lei, Katsumi, and Stephanie Swift. Strap-ons, double-ended dildos, fingers, tongues, and very creative positioning, oh boy! Also particularly enjoyable is the final scene between St. Croix and Lei, which is slow, sweet, and very sexy.

Plus, fans of Asia Carrera will be sad to learn that Sweatshop features the final performance of the Wicked Pics veteran; a blazing scene with Randy Spears.

Excellent throughout, Sweatshop is a must have for erotic connoisseurs.
