Vivid Entertainment Group is in the business of making plot-based adult films; with the delivery of Star, the movie powerhouse plays with social taboos and a beloved American musical in a way that only Vivid can. Star, directed by Paul Thomas, is an unforgivable take on the 1960s musical Bye Bye Birdie. The movie stars one of Vivid's newest girls Stefani Morgan. Billed as a Girls gone Wild superstar, Morgan is a cute, approachable blonde with great comic timing. Her acting experience and the crazy yet familiar storyline helps propel the film.
The wonderful thing about Stefani Morgan, is the ease with which she delivers one-liners. Her casting as a naïve groupie of country music star Antowaine Birdy (Nick Manning) is perfect. Though Ms. Morgan’s acting is up to snuff, her sexual performances leave a lot to be desired. Morgan lacks energy in her sexual encounters. It is clear she is holding back and this hinders her performance and the viewers’ enjoyment. Her scene with boyfriend Herbie, Trent Tesoro, falls flat. Tesoro gives it the old college try, but Morgan looks wooden and uncomfortable. Morgan is also a disappointment when fucking Manning at the end of the film. We even witness her break character and tell Manning, he is “squishing” her breast. Morgan admits in the behind the scenes that she is a newbie with just 40 films under her belt, hopefully she will become freer in time.
A young lady who is not sexually repressed is Morgan’s rival in the film, Tiffany. Tiffany is a naughty girl who will do anything to bask in the presence of Antowaine Birdy, the country music superstar staying at Stefani’s house. Tiffany energetically fucks a local television talk show host to get at Birdy. Naughty girls do need love too, and Tiffany slides expertly to her knees to revel in it.
Tiffany is on fire in the scene where she and Stefani's pathetic boyfriend Herbie, make a blackmail sex tape. The pair are made to fuck each other. Tesoro’s performance reached new heights; he is focused and trusting with force and determination. Tiffany and Tesoro are a sweaty, dripping pair that go together like a hand and a glove. From oral, to fingering, to vaginal penetration and everything in between they are fierce.
Overall, Star is a fun and timely film. It is genuinely funny, yet, also delves into socially relevant issues, like Viagra, homophobia, the irresponsibility of today’s news media, and the internet. This film is a great social sounding board without being preachy. The sex scenes are also fun to watch because they all have a touch of kook. From beginning a blow job while the male is on a toilet, to mature adult pool chair fun between Nicki Hunt and Manning, Star pushes the envelope.
At times while watching this film you will get a strong MTV reality show vibe. The sets, cinematography, and stars scream Laguna Beach with sex. If you are a college student, this film will quickly become a favorite. If, however, you are in the 25+ age bracket, the film’s saccharine glow will prompt you to go elsewhere for your carnal fix.
