When someone first asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, my first response should have been porn star (not guidance counselor-what was I thinking!?). In Role Modeling, Dana DeArmond came across (thanks to Myspace) four girls and one boy who were chosen to star in a brand new, pro-am release from Vivid-alt. Role Modeling is both exciting and revealing as we see fresh faces get their start in adult films, while industry vets (like Dana) express their emotions about finding new stars, trying to do business, and how it all comes together in the end. Oh, and don't ask about the deer/woods motif throughout the film; I didn't understand it either.
Although they were all amateurs when they signed up, the one actress who really knew how to work in front of the camera was Casper Vice. Casper appears in scene three with Daniel and everything plays out with a smooth ease; this scene actually looks like it belongs in an adult film. The first detail you’ll notice is Casper’s sexy punk rock style which defines the alt-porn genre. The next thing you’ll notice is how well she eases into the on screen sex. Casper is all over Daniel as they get right to business with the opening oral work. Personally, I enjoyed watching Casper’s fresh pussy being eaten on camera for the first time because it felt so new and real. Oh, and the aggression of the sex was very hot as well.
Dana also picked up a fresh new male for this flick and he goes by the name Johnny Utah. Johnny is your typical punk teenager (think those annoying brats you see hanging out at the mall in front of Hot Topic) with a better than average sized cock. Dana decides to be the one to pop his on camera cherry, which is a dream come true. However, this is a professional film and Johnny is new to this, so he actually disappears for twenty minutes to re-obtain his hard on. Dana’s boyfriend Daniel steps in to keep the action alive, and is later joined by Utah. A notable moment in this scene is when Dana rides Johnny reverse cowgirl and goes anal. The anal work is not as pronounced as some of us would like but it’s there all the same.
The one girl I was not too fond of was Apple McCall in scene two (a last minute fill in for a cancellation). Apple is not as alternative as the other actors, which is ok, and she’s pretty decent looking. It just felt like she acknowledged the camera too much; as opposed to completely ignoring it and being totally involved with the sex. Honestly, this seen really fell flat for me.
Dana DeArmand has given us a very well crafted, insightful adult film with Role Modeling. Dana's camera work was crisp and clean, and she did a fine job of selecting her pro-am stars to round out the cast. The main interviews of the film did tend to drag slightly (between questions and editing), but they did provide the real gold of this film, which is the reality of who these wonderful people are and how they ended up here. Will we see these young stars in future releases? On camera they never said yes…but then again they never said no. RoleModeling
