Erik Everhard’s Out Numbered takes the concept of a gangbang and turns it squarely on its head. Instead of having one or two girls getting dominated by a roomful of guys, the opposite happens here: Everhard and two of his boys take on a roomful of some of the hottest European women in the business. The result is three scenes of hot, well-shot sex. But the constantly roving camera’s effort to capture as much of the action in the room as possible kills some of the momentum.
This was the first time I have seen a film with Everhard in the director’s seat, and he proves himself a formidable talent on par with his other Red Light District comrades. Everhard has an approach that combines the gonzo/POV intimacy of Robbie Fischer and Mike John with some of the stylistic eye for detail that characterizes Tony Ribas’ work. Like Ribas, Everhard’s scene lead-ins give the viewer time to drink in the beauty of the women before the hardcore action begins. Some Fischer/John-esque quasi-gonzo appears in the first and third scene lead-ins, where Everhard the cameraman is welcomed by a knockout blonde into a Czech apartment before he gets from behind the camera and is joined by male cohorts Steve Holmes and Robert Rosenberg for a dizzying spectacle of two-ways, three-ways, DPs, and just about everything you would expect from a Prague porn orgy.
If I have a favorite scene, it’s the second. While the first and third scenes take place in urban dwellings, settings that add a claustrophobic downside to the action, the second scene is shot at an ornate private spread, which lends to more breathing room for the three guys and seven girls on hand. We open on the driveway, and (here’s where the Ribas comparison clicked) the camera pans up a red-fishnet leg to the naked clean-shaven crotch of brunette Victoria, who serves up an ass-jiggling solo grope tease before leading us to the lawn of the estate, where six other mouth-watering babes are getting themselves and each other turned on. Statuesque blonde Angelica invites everyone inside, and the girls take their places on the checkerboard marble floor and continue the work up. Eventually, Everhard makes a gonzo entrance by way of his hand on a tit, and before long, another camera takes over, the other two guys join in, and the director becomes a fully visible participant. To document the extent of the action that ensues would be a feat.
For all the eye candy and epic grand finales, the problem I found with Out Numbered is that the multiple encounters never last long enough to allow the carnal rubber to really hit the road. Nobody hogs the camera, which is great, but I never end up feeling engaged in this free-for-all. Maybe I’m just a bit bummed that the girl that caught my eye the most – the ample long-haired brunette Jennifer (the one who sports a black crisscross body stocking in the second scene, not the Tera Joy look-alike) – doesn’t get enough attention.
On the back of the box, Red Light calls this film “every man’s fantasy,” but I don’t fully agree with that. They are partially right, insofar as most guys, and plenty of women, would kill to be outnumbered by these roomfuls of gassed-up starlets. But if you’re a mere viewer, it might help if you’ve got attention deficit disorder (and a bottle of Viagra, for that matter), because that’s what it would take for the average everyman to make the most of all this hot female talent without getting overwhelmed.
Out Numbered is great in small doses, but in entirety, there was just too much going on to get me sufficiently turned on. There is no doubt in my mind that these were some amazing Eastern European orgies – if the scenes aren’t proof enough, take a peek behind the scenes and you’ll see the makings of a project that was no doubt a blast to make – but for all its upsides, this film could have been a more compelling affair.
