Anabolic's Nasty Girls series endeavors to offer up as much honest, authentic girl-on-girl fun as you can stomach in the space of two hours. Nasty Girls 23 does its best, but suffers from severe hit-or-miss syndrome. While any wall-to-wall video will have its share of high points and low points, the low points in Nasty Girls 23 definitely overshadow the high. This is a terrible shame, because the first scene is the best girl-girl scene I've had the pleasure of watching in a long time.

The format here is simple enough: director Buffy Malibu introduces the girls, asks them what turns them on, and then lets them loose to do their thing with a wide variety of toys at their disposal. The girls are encouraged to do what comes naturally (and, oddly enough, to make eye contact with the camera when they can, something I've never been too fond of in a non-POV film), and to get each other off. If the guidelines are so simple, why is the quality of the scenes so damn inconsistent? I really wish I knew, because if we could get a video made up scenes that are as good as the first scene here, it'd be the best thing since DVD chapter skipping.

Without a doubt, the star of the entire video is Syren, featured in delicious detail right at the beginning. She's hot, natural, enthusiastic, and loud. Very loud. Ear-shatteringly loud. So much so that screaming through a pair of panties in her mouth is not enough to quell her noises so Buffy, fearful of what the neighbors might think, throws her a pillow to bite. It's not only funny but true to life (ever been with someone so loud you worried the neighbors might call the cops?) and that's what really makes the scene work.

Syren and her partner Fawna, the lucky devils, get to do nothing for a half hour but have a whole lot of fun with each other, and Buffy's camerawork ensures that we watch and enjoy, but not intrude. At one point Syren is kneeling over on a couch and screaming into her pillow while Fawna takes her ass with a wicked vibe shaped like a string of beads, but Syren's bent with her back to the camera. We get a nearly abstract view of her lower torso as she convulses in ecstasy, yet it looks completely natural. Syren and Fawna are positioned not for the cameras but for each other, and the result is a more honest and natural scene than anything that precedes it.

Sure, the second scene with Bella and Christy is also honest and fun, giving more of the same but slightly toned down, but Buffy seems to have shot her directorial load early on. It's too bad, then, that the remaining scenes, while slightly above-average, are not nearly as enjoyable for either side of the camera as the first two. The first thing that goes is the lack of climax to end the scenes; a true demonstration why good pacing is very important to a film.

The three-way with strap-ons at the end of the video is a decent closer, but not a true fitting end to what had been such an excellent start. Sadly, the inconsistency really keeps Nasty Girls 23 from breaking out as a solid winner, but at least you won't be sorry if you get a chance to view that wonderful first scene.
