When one produces a film in the on-the-street flasher category, it’s generally a good idea to find a way to make it stimulating and unique, so that it doesn’t become terribly repetitive and boring after a few minutes. Unfortunately, this is not something that the makers of Mardi Gras 2005 succeed in doing.
If the cameramen had taken more time to follow individual women around or taken more women aside for extra camera time, it might have been a film of higher quality. But these shots are few and far between, and the gist of the film is five- or ten-second breasts, ass and/or pussy shot after five- or ten-second breasts, ass and/or pussy shot, some of which are either recycled outright or simply shown at barely different angles later on.
One particularly attractive woman with face paint appears in several scattered shots, and comprises the most interesting part of the film, where she is recorded for several minutes having a tropical scene painted on her breasts and stomach. She is later shown, pre-paint, giving a striptease at a local bar. If the editor had given this beauty her own segment, showing her from the time the cameras found her and through to the body painting scene, it might have given the film a badly-needed backbone. But her scenes are presented out-of-sequence and completely randomly throughout the film.
Another disappointing aspect is that the cameramen keep insisting, on camera, that the women wish viewers “happy Mardi Gras” during each flashing. I can understand why lovers of this genre would like the women to say this as they flash, in order to give the viewer a more authentic experience. However, hearing the cameramen request it during each and every clip, grates relentlessly on the audience.
Another component of the film, which can be viewed as positive or negative depending on the viewer’s individual tastes, is that the women in the movie are of all ages, races, and body types. Some are quite attractive, while others are plain. Some appear to be barely legal, while others are old. Some are thin, while others are overweight. If you’re looking for a bunch of cherry-picked young beauties revealing their most private parts, this isn’t the film for you. However, if you’re the type who wants the authentic Mardi Gras experience, you might like this.
For the hardcore fans, there are a few pussy shots, even some where the cameramen get the subjects to spread open their pussy lips. However, the film is mostly about breasts, with a few ass shots and the occasional pussy shot thrown in.
From a sociological standpoint, it is interesting to watch dozens of women who are willing to appear nude for Dream Girls, in addition to the dozens of men with cameras, camera phones, and video cameras hovering around them, as long as they’re promised the monkey or dolphin beads. It’s also interesting to watch men run up to said women like short-distance sprinters, once they realize they’re about to get naked. However, the social curiosity that is Mardi Gras is not enough to redeem this effort.
In conclusion, if you’re a reality junkie who doesn’t care who’s taking off their shirts and pants as long as they’re female, you might enjoy Mardi Gras 2005. However, the lazy editing, lack of fresh material, and shortage of red-hot women make this a film worthy of skipping for all but the most incorrigible flasher fans. MardiGras2005
