Karma directed by B. Skow, produced by Vivid and starring one of the studios most respected actresses, Mercedez, is devastating like sour milk on the last bowl of your favorite cereal. Well-known for the bevy of beauties that grace their halls and the quality and detail of their films, Vivid is a studio that will induce a pavlovian response; hardened genitalia, quickened breath, and throbbing loins. Karma soils the Vivid name resting on the studios laurels and cheating fans of Vivid’s cinematic genius.
Karma as a whole is a gross under-achiever, yet, there is one standout among the rubble, scene two’s blonde goddess August and the oh so, sexy Kurt her on screen paramour. August plays a cheating house frau, who lets her conscience and Kurt’s fingers, get the best of her. The pair makes scene two a standout because of the chemistry and organic attraction that flows easily between them. Their fucking is a voyeur’s fantasy. Watching the couple engage in 69 was akin to being in the room with them, you could smell the sex, it was that good. Look for August to become lost in the moment thus making it impossible for her to keep Kurt’s dick in her mouth; it is honest and authentic, adding to an already sexy performance. As the couple demonstrates a truly great session of 69 will always become one sided.
Another unexpected standout from the troubled production was the DVD’s coming attractions. Upon inserting the disc the first ten minutes are a barrage of interesting 900 numbers, all of which are sure to heighten the verbal senses. But, the most thrilling event came by way of the Vivid created and marketed sex toy line. The commercial advertises authentic life size vaginal sex toys, designed and molded from three of VIVID’S hottest stars. The “girls” are fashioned to look and feel like the VIVID stars inside and out. They come complete with appropriate coloring, vaginal folds, clitorises and in one instance, hair. Watching as the “girls” are stimulated with a VIVID endorsed vibrator is as real as it gets, for the porn/sex toy fanatic.
Karma is a disappointing film and from the opening credits the movie is plagued by inefficacy. Scene changes are implemented through child like drawings, and freeze framed captions replace non sexual acting. The sexually charged scenes are bland and poorly filmed. Self-aware, the filmmaker alerts the viewer in the opening credits that the production is troubled. It seems the original unnamed VIVID star of the film is a no show, and veteran Mercedez, fresh from a flight and lacking sleep, is called in to save the day. The woman is a natural knockout and looks amazing, yet is energy depleted from her first scene to her last. Technically accurate, each Mercedez scene lacks the charisma and charm expected of a Vivid girl. Nevertheless Mercedez consistent, impressive anal stimulation during scene one is noteworthy, as is the use of the always fun rarely adult film executed tittie fuck in scene five.
Karma can be exciting at times, yet, it’s overall picture and execution will leave you frustrated and confused. Webster’s Dictionary defines the word 'karma' as “the force generated by a person's actions”, however in the instance of Vivid the inventive and exciting studio that produced the movie Karma, that definition just doesn’t ring true.
