With Hook-Ups 2, Mark Stone shows that the second time around is sometimes better than the first in this subtly stylized sequel of wall-to-wall action. Like its predecessor, the talent is all top shelf, except this time the gloss is toned down and the stripped-down filth is front and center.

The hottest scene just might be the girl-girl bar side action with dark-haired, fair-skinned Taylor St. Claire and chipmunk-cute, golden-brown goldilocks Mary Carey. The two remain half-clothed during the entire scene, which gives the sex a spontaneous, urgent kick, as if they don’t want to waste any time taking it all off. I have no doubt these two look great in the buff, but there’s just something hot about seeing St. Claire’s milky breasts squeezed over the top of that black shirt. The women take turns getting each other worked up, trading the dominant/submissive roles frequently. The passion is tangible as St. Claire tenderly devours and forcefully fingers Carey’s clit, then hikes up her denim skirt and leans back for some pussy-slapping and blue-dildo-prodding from Carey. The only real beef I have with this film is that the tunes are a little cheesy -- some rote blues rock here, some 80s funk-guitar wank there -- and quite forgettable. Thankfully, the music is left mainly to the scene transitions and is not allowed to interfere with the bulk of the sex on screen.

Affable, enthused director Stone hosts a decent behind-the-scenes Making Of documentary included with the bonus features on the disc, but the completed action is the main attraction. This film avoids overt slickness and instead delivers hot, convincing and at-times-athletic sex (again, this is top shelf talent). A better soundtrack and perhaps a bonus clip would have pushed this closer to five-fish range. Hook-Ups 2 finds the series heading in the right direction; I will be enjoying this one while I look forward to the next chapter.
