I remember Michael Ninn's work from the days of Shock which, admittedly, was quite some time ago. At that point in time, his productions were groundbreaking visual and thematic feasts that pushed all the edges of pornography farther outward in a direction I was quite excited to see it going. The current development, from Ninn's now monolithical studio and directed by talent Li'l Lo, is conceptually far and away from Shock, though the visual aspect is still finely tuned.
Back in 2003, a brand new magazine entitled Fish and Grits hit the stands, purporting to be the intersection of porn and the music industry. Albeit tailored specifically towards the hip hop crowd and the aesthetic most desired in that arena, the print publication could be an excellent analogy for this film. The vignettes here are all preceded by music video style sequences that showcase the girls in provocative clothing and positions, with cues that are shout outs to the creator - sparkling faux diamond studded name belts with 'Ninn' emblazoned on them - and the aesthetically pleasing elements that are staples in any Worx production: gold filligreed velvet curtains as backdrops in the living room with gunmetal grey, ultramodern speaker stacks in the foreground.
Or the lowered 60s era impala with a hydraulics kit that hops to the beat of the intro music in the final scene. Each of the women in the film seems to have been ripped from the lyrics of a current Hip Hop tune: Eva Angelina and her smoldering, exotic, Latin looks, or Lyla Lei's and Mika Tan's Asian sweetness, not to mention the sultry, cinnamony tastiness of Ashley Brooks. This video has all the Hip Hoppinest hotness you can handle!
And that's all before the sex starts. These girls may be dressed in Prada and Gucci, but they take the line: "a lady in the street and a freak in the bed" - or on the couch, in the car, - seriously. Angelina is paired with the mythological Mr. Marcus, a legend in his own time, he and Eva seem to have a special place in their hearts for each other as they keep the fires stoked through what seems to be an eternity, though, their energy is such that we almost wish it doesn't end.
Lyla Lei takes the advantage in her scene and shows us just how much of an anal fanatic she is, making us sweat just watching her. And in the final scene with Ashley Brooks on the hood of the Impala, well, let's just say the girls like to help each other, and stud Tee Real, out as he takes them both over the top before giving them each shots of his pimp juice.
Can we say that the hip hop genre has become fetishized? Likely yes, since there is definitely an amazingly large population of folks that simply can't get turned on unless by the visual, aural, and olfactory stimulants associated with these videos and, given just how hot it all is when spliced together in the video editor, who can blame them? The sex here is much more Evil Angel style than Andrew Blake, or Wicked, however, isn't that really the point? Seems Li'l Lo has thankfully taken the genre out of MTV's hands, and put it somewhere it truly belongs. GhettoFabulous
