Erotik represents what this writer hopes is a growing trend in the porn industry: a straightforward, well-shot, well-acted, varied anthology. Like Vivid’s Deep in Malezia, it appeals to a variety of tastes, and is wonderfully minimalist, achieving maximum arousal with a minimum of cheesy dialogue and no need of ornate sets.

The format consists of seven several-minute segments, all involving a man and a woman, each differently titled to capture a different theme. The first, “Domination,” is self-explanatory. A man is leading his submissive on a leash in some sort of nebulous kitchen or dining-room area. He pours her a bowl of milk to lap from like a cat, and then the sex begins. Completely reciprocal, the woman is certainly not left out of the enjoyment, evidenced when the master savagely rips her fishnet stockings, in order to masturbate her and then give her cunnilingus. He, of course, is not left wanting, also receiving oral sex, and the two make love in a variety of positions. Though a hardcore BDSM fan will see this scene as nothing more than fluff, Erotik opts for the jack-of-all-trades approach, never going too heavily into any one scene, hoping, instead, to please the porn-viewing audience at large.

The naughtier demographic won’t be disappointed, however, as the second scene, “Anonymous,” clearly proves. It involves a woman who sits upon a public toilet, who is delighted to find a penis poke through a large hole in the side of her stall. She proceeds to give and receive pleasure from the phallus, whose owner is known only to the audience, which we are masterfully reminded of in the ending shot, when the woman exits the stall, and we are left seeing only the man’s feet and pants down around his ankles.

A further scene, titled “Abstract,” might not be everyone’s concept of the word, appearing in a mockup of a debris-strewn train yard of some kind. “Erotik,” the video’s namesake, involves a fantasy-based scene around a male welder. “Innocence” is one of the better segments, starting with two ingenuous-looking paramours on a water-side picnic. The woman starts by exploring the orgasmically delicious qualities of a large banana and a few strawberries, before the two explore one another’s bodies in the usual fashions. This is one of the better scenes in the film, providing a sense of playful naughtiness and immersing fantasy. Not at all cliché, the viewer can easily imagine himself in the scene, itself.

“Hypnotic” truly captures the essence of the film at large. It involves a couple having sex in a strobe-lit room, on some sort of slab, in front of some type of white indoor lattice, which looks like it came straight out of a 1980s music video. This sort of half-reality is what makes this scene, and indeed the other scenes in the film, so powerful. With a minimum of dialogue, and sets that hint at settings, rather than cement them, Erotik gives the viewer a sense of being inside his own or someone else’s fantasies. This will be a letdown for those who get off on the verbal aspect of sex just as much as the physical, but for most, the grunts-and-screams-only format really enhances the DVD.

As far as the price-to-value ratio, I wouldn’t recommend this DVD to satisfy those deeply into any particular fetish, but for those who like a little bit of everything, this DVD is a true winner. Like the similar Deep in Malezia, Erotik tries to provide a high-quality experience, helping to not only excite the viewer and provide imagery pleasing to the eye and other parts of the body, but also to help jumpstart the watcher’s imagination as well. It’s sort of an imagination workshop, if you will. Erotik, as the title suggests, truly is erotic, rather than the usual, run-of-the-mill, void-of-imagination, low-quality porn that, sadly, inundates today’s market.
