This video is really two things: an intimate interview with porn star/director Joanna angel and a collection of some of Joanna’s finest on screen moments. A must see for porn aficionados and Joanna Angel fans alike.
As a doctor, diector Caesar Bonobo did a great job of shutting up and letting his subject (Joanna) do the talking. The other thing Bonobo did right was intersperse Joanna’s dialogue with some choice clips of her from other films; which cuts down on those cheesy swipes and fade outs from one story to another.
As for selection, well this DVD is filled with gems like one featuring Joanna as a sexy secret agent who along with colleague James Deen are works for the president, Mr. Marcus. If you’ve ever wondered why a certain former president was up for impeachment well maybe it was because he didn’t have the bal- er conviction that Mr. Marcus does as president; not hesitating to use his executive power to order his subordinates into action. By the end of this, Joanna has had every combination of men and position you could get out of a desk full of phones.
This brings me to the scene index in the menu of the DVD. I have not, to date seen such an in depth and useful scene selection menu. The first level of the menu titles the scenes with the names of the woman starring in them. Then, the next level divides you can skip right to different parts of the scenes based on act and positions contained within. I mean you can’t even get that kind of versatility out of real people sometimes.
My personal favorite and probably the best example of how the chapter selection is an amazing innovation is the second segment starring Joanna as a starry-eyed spectator of a male stripper. The starts slow and almost silent (aside from the soundtrack) with some very sensual shots, showing Joanna's inherent lust and desire for the dancer establishing along with the sparkly make-up and soft lighting that this is clearly a fantasy of hers; and in case the foreshadowing didn’t take, it isn’t long until Joanna’s clothes are off and the sex is on. The rest of the scene does a good job of keeping up appearances as a fantasy maintaining near silence and a slow progression from foreplay to some deep and intimate positions the way one would if one were as sex starved as Joanna seems to be.
All in all, this is a solid DVD of both institutional merit and industry standard suitable for both those interested in learning more about this up and coming star and director and also those who just want to see lots of great shots. Don’t get me wrong the dvd might rub some people in weird ways because it is still a documentary of someone with very progressive views and humor but you can always skip over all that; right to the money shot if you want.
