The cleverly titled Coming on Set is a solid adult film, which doesn’t forge any new territory, but makes up for its common material with its powerful and sensual direction by famed porn director, Chi Chi La Rue.
The basic format of Coming on Set is a series of five unrelated sex scenes, with Vivid star Mercedez playing a sort of erotic film Elvira, adding glib on-camera introductions and concluding remarks to each segment, as she lounges on an antique-style couch. Mercedez’s participation isn’t limited to narration, however. She appears in the third, all-girl scene with two of the other actresses, and in the final group-sex scene.
As for the significance of the title of Coming on Set, La Rue appears at the conclusion of the final two scenes and can be heard off-camera at the end of the other scenes, complimenting the actors on their wonderful performances, giving the film a superfluous, but not intrusive “on-the-set” feel.
The first scene truly establishes the movie as not the usual, hastily thrown-together fodder that floods today’s adult market. It begins with what appears to be a standard, heterosexual scene, but does not disappoint. Firstly, rather than the two actors ripping their clothing off and going at it like animals, La Rue teases the audience, making them savor every moment and whetting their appetite for each subsequent one.
For instance, La Rue has the actress take off her tank top gradually, hinting at the bounty that lies underneath, rather than just exposing her breasts right off the bat, and later in the scene, while the couple is standing and the actress has her back to the man, La Rue has the man rub his penis through the woman’s legs, letting the tip rub lightly up against the woman’s labia. This is a refreshing change of pace from the usual anal, vaginal or oral intercourse, which the film happens to have plenty of, as well.
The second scene involves a couple, who decide to indulge their voyeuristic fantasies by making love in an under-construction bathroom, their camcorder running all the-while, either on the floor or in one of their hands. The actress’s voice is a bit high-pitched, which can be annoying for some, but arousing for others.
The third scene, the first to involve Mercedez, is essentially an all-female orgy, with Mercedez and two other actresses taking turns pleasuring one another in a variety of entertaining ways.
The fourth scene is the most hardcore of the five, with more direction reminiscent of the first segment. It involves a man and woman, who begin by masturbating, first through and under their underwear, which is a nice, teasing touch, before beginning work on one another. This scene involves a lot of spitting into one another’s mouths, onto each other’s genitalia/asses, etc., and includes an ample amount of anal intercourse, rimming and other anal play. This scene will be the high point for the more hardcore audience.
The final scene is fun to watch, to say the least, involving Mercedez, another actress and two actors. The women take turns pleasuring themselves, one another and the men, as the men pleasure them. One of the best moments of that segment is when Mercedez guides the other woman’s mouth to one of the actors’ penises, as the other actor penetrates her from behind.
The costuming in this film is great, with the actresses wearing arousing lingerie and the men wearing the requisite man panties. One of the actors in the last scene wears a chain around his neck, giving off a sort of a subtle S&M vibe, only reinforced by the man panties, which especially works in the final scene, where the women are most assuredly the center of attention.
At any rate, this is an excellent film, which can be enjoyed all together or just in pieces if you’re short on time or have a favorite scene or two. La Rue certainly knows what he’s doing and how to give the audience the most for their money. For most adult audiences, Coming on Set represents a good time and a good value. ComingOnSet
