As the strange-looking man walked onto the stage in the opening scene of Cabaret Bizarre, the first thought that crossed my mind was "Ugh!" This was going to be some artsy-fartsy, loose impersonation of porn, where the sex is twisted and the performers are just, well, weird. Not that I mind kink in my films, but time to put away those tissues.
Yet, after watching the movie I must admit that I couldn't have been more wrong. Cabaret Bizarre is a compilation of vignettes with the 'bizarre' as its common thread running through the interconnected scenes. The women are hot and the men are props; toys that the women play with as they please themselves. And the men are not the only toys. At one point, for example, much to the viewer's delight, a gorgeous (and bodacious) vision in black latex introduces the viewer to a good friend of hers, a black, latex-covered teddy bear, with a massive hard-on. And she shows us why teddy's such a good friend.
The film will please both the hardcore porn afficionado and the fetishist. The movie gives the viewer plenty to look at and to listen to. Ms. Hyde intersperses some great club music mixes and outerworldly sound bites with the movie visual. The music lends the movie a haunting melody that often melds with the moans and grunts of the actors, allowing the viewer to lose himself completely in the movie. The only fault I was able to find with the score, and with the movie in fact, was that the voiced-over grunts and moans, didn't always match with what appeared to be coming out of the mouths of the actresses, themselves. At times, I found myself wishing that the moaning would cease allowing me to enjoy the rhythmic fucking of the actors to the club music, though admittedly a good moan here or there, doesn't usually hurt.
Cabaret Bizarre offers us seven hot scenes, and an additional scene in the extras, that you have to watch to truly experience. The kink in this movie is almost as hot as the performers, whose obvious zeal for the subject matter comes through, with visually pleasing performances that will have the viewer cumming back for more, of this soon to be fan fave.
Ms. Hyde's dual vision pays homage to the hot sex as well as the fetish, and even manages to borrow from high-brow mainstream art, like the Comedia Dell'Arte, in the manner in which it honors the art of the performance, rather than the subject manner itself. The master of ceremonies, himself a sexually progressive version of the Comedia's hunchback Punchinello, guides the viewer from scene to scene providing, along with a sexy disembodied female voice, the narration to each of the scenes.
The outfits that the actors wear, the rubber masks and the latex, provide not only visual stimuli, but a welcome distraction from the all-too-often mundane world of adult movies. The production was shaky, often grainy and reminiscent of old-home movies, was meant to be that way, and thus provides the viewer with uncommon yet pleasing visuals. All in all, the film is well-worth the expense or, at the very least, a trip to the local video store. CabaretBizarre
