It's not hard to see why AVN awarded Barely Legal as the best vignette series in 2004. Full of beautiful girls, and (believe it or not) beautiful men, Barely Legal #50 definitely has a high standard of production values. Each scene starts with a “Letters to Penthouse” narration by the girl starring in the scene. The occasional voice over in the middle of the scene reminds you that you are looking at a girl who is, in fact, barely legal, and can be a bit distracting.

The first scene is an incestuous uncle/niece scene. Randy Spears is his usually fabulous porn star self and Randi Wright is certainly an eager, beautiful participant. She plays the part of a naughty youth seducing her host very well and will certainly appeal to anyone who likes a “bad girl.”

Smokie Flame stars in the second barbershop scene where she seduces her last client of the day, Sascha. The barbershop chair allows for an interesting variation in the standard formula of positions.

The third scene is somewhat disappointing. Kayden suits her role of 18-year-old kid sister well when she gets it on with her brother’s friend (Sergio) on the side of the pool; however, the sex itself lacks real heat.

Vanilla Skye is the star of the fourth scene and plays a seamstress who seduces a young and gorgeous British (Steve Hooper) customer. Of all the girls on this film, Vanilla is the most natural, classically beautiful girl of the bunch and with her very attractive partner, she produces the most heat and the best chemistry.

The last scene is a threesome starring the naughty, nasty, dirty talking Britney Jay and her older partners Dale De Bone and Joey Ray. Britney comes off as a nasty little slut in the vein of Belladonna with her craving for a two-man fantasy, a pierced clithood, and a lust for anal sex.

Overall, the heat is sometimes amazing, but sometimes just mediocre. However, McLean’s background as an erotic photographer comes through in the excellent camera work, quality lighting (often natural), and general ability to capture an attractive aesthetic.

The bonus features really lift this DVD from the average 3 star movie to something superior. First, the bonus all-girl orgy scene including Belladonna, Cytherea, Monica Sweetheart, and five other luscious women is amazing. The cast has a good range of sweet and nasty with lots of toys and lots of orgasms. Plus, there is a behind-the-scenes interview with the adventurous bisexual Smokie Flame that show the girl is most men (and many women’s) fantasy even off camera. Also included is a 2002 interview with director Clive McLean discussing his quarter century career working for Larry Flynt and his stint of directing that started with Barely Legal #1 in September of 1999.

Another plus for this film, completely apart from the turn on factor, is one that the ladies will appreciate. This film has lots of clear shots that could be very enlightening to the men who love women, but may not be completely sure whether or not they are doing certain things the right way. Scene two plainly shows the easiest way to remove a woman’s bra. The last scene gives a clear image of excellent tactics for adding a little hand action to oral sex. The close-ups in this film are very clear, and well placed giving good views of the anatomy and what should be done with it.

Four stars for excellent bonus features, amazing production quality, and a hot looking cast even if the heat is hit or miss.
