Let us now sing the praises of Nicole Sheridan, a walking, talking dream girl if there ever was one. Blonde, buff and beautiful, she boasts a dirty mouth, a frantic libido, and an almost frightening willingness to throw her all into her scenes like few other performers who appear in top-shelf videos by the major companies.
Yet stars like Sheridan never seem to make many box covers; remember Toni James? Kerri Downs? even Nina Hartley in many of her appearances? Of course you do, and we’re betting that their scenes, along with many of Sheridan’s, are what you remember about certain films in your porn collection, much more than the scenes of whoever the “box cover beauty” was that led you to buy the video in the first place.
Which brings us to Bare Stage, a passable piece of porn starring Savanna Samson, a lovely, perfect-bodied young blonde who won AVN’s Best Actress award a couple of years back. This film was shot as it if were a ’40s stage play, with each fucking scene representing a scene in the play. We won’t bore you with the overly wordy, unimportant plot -- director David Stanley apparently greatly admires fellow Vivid director Paul Thomas -- and inform you that, as in so many Vivid productions, the co-stars steal the movie right out of the feminine hands of the box cover babe.
Sheridan is absolutely broiling here, taking on a beefy stud on a piano bench in a torrid, wet boy-girl scene. Her oral skills are simply off the scale. Another great performance is delivered by Lezley Zen, who plays a hooker and delivers a tempting girl-girl moment. Samson certainly isn’t bad here, but her opening scene -- a straight boy-girl fucking scenario -- is marred by a bit too much talk and not enough action.
The video package is aided by some fun extras, such as alternate camera angles (always an enjoyable feature) and a photo gallery that’s much better than the static video captures offered by other adult companies. Vivid has always been an innovator, and robustly packaged porn such as Bare Stage continues to prove it.
When all is said and done, Bare Stage features beautiful people fucking in a plot-driven scenario that makes it likely to score points with the “couples” crowd. But when all is licked and fucked, we’d still like to see Sheridan promoted to the “A list” designation she so richly deserves. She’s the unsung hero of any production she appears in, and if her name is on the box cover, it’s likely to be worth picking up. So why is her name listed on the back instead of the front of so many?
