I’ve reviewed a few flavored vodka in the past for this website, and usually I run into the same old problem. Sure, the drink is flavored but there is still an alcohol burn that comes with vodka, and added flavor only can cover so much. But the Vincent Van Gogh Acai-Blueberry Vodka may have finally got it right. The addition of the acai, a now trendy fruit which is grown by the Amazon River, is a welcome addition to this vodka and gives the taste of grape, which helps dull the tartness of the blueberry. This is definitely vodka I could get used to enjoying.
One of the first times I ever tried blueberry vodka, it was mixed with lemonade as a summertime cooler. While the weather currently does not call for a cooler, that’s the first mixer I poured the Acai-Blueberry into. The result of my mixture was probably the most refreshing drink I’ve had in months, if not years. The aroma is an excellent mix of lemon, blueberry, and grapes. The first sips is like a delicious fruit punch, and the taste of alcohol is almost non-existent. The finish is extra smooth, with no aftertaste at all. I honestly have never been so impressed with a vodka before.
For my second drink, I mixed the Acai-Blueberry with actual blueberry juice. I feel that most flavored vodkas are meant to be mixed with whatever the vodka is supposed to resemble. While the drink was disappointing, it was not the vodka’s fault. It turns out the real key is the acai. The acai makes the vodka more sweet than harsh, and the bite completely disappears. I then found that I enjoyed the Acai-Blueberry as much on its own with some ice. It was an enjoyable treat that could be served as an aperitif, or even as an after-dinner dessert drink.
With its purple color and sweet taste, vodka purists might scoff at the Vincent Van Gogh Acai-Blueberry. I may have found my new favorite flavored vodka. It is so good that I look forward to seeking out other Van Gogh flavors, just so see if they are as accurate as this one. Now, I am looking forward to the summer as I anticipate Acai-Blueberry as a staple in my drink repertoire as I sun myself by the pool.
