In my continued look at cheap beers, mostly for the benefit of the imminent college crowd, I’d like to walk you through a pretty reasonable cheap beer, Miller Lite. Miller Lite was not only popular when I was in college, it was a slight cut above. If you had your real friends over, you offered Miller Lite.
Miller Lite is the standard canned beer and is what should be launched across the room in response to the phrase “Beer me!” Miller Lite must take up the vast majority of the fridge and will be found in half-empty forgotten cans all over the place the next morning. Miller Lite will be stuffed into backpacks and taken for the trip to class or where the real party is.
The taste, or lack thereof, is strikingly similar to MGD, but it’s far less expensive. It’s actually almost a little sweet, but there’s still no distinct flavor. The whole corn brewing process is most likely to blame for the lack of flare.
I don’t want to say that Miller Lite is a perfect party beer, but it’s pretty close. I mean, classy taste aside, this beer fits a niche very well. It’s not too expensive. It’s easy to throw back in massive quantities. And, best of all, it doesn’t taste bad. Truthfully, it doesn’t really taste like anything. Perhaps, the best thing about Miller Lite is that you can easily walk out of the grocery store having spent about $30 and carrying 36 of the beautiful blue cans as you go.
