SexHerald: I know I speak for all your fans when I say thank you for coming back into porn. Is this a long-term thing or are you taking this day by day, scene by scene?
Raylene: It’s a long-term thing. I’m taking it slow, scene by scene, but I do believe that I’m going to stay in for the long term.
SH: How does it feel to be back?
Raylene: Great! It took a minute to get used to it because I’ve been out so long. I readjusted my life to the real world—the non-porno world. [laughs] So, it took a minute to readjust myself and get back into the swing of things. But now I think I’m pretty set in my porno ways. I’m pretty excited to be back, and I love it. It’s great.
SH: How did you arrive at the decision to come back into porn?
Raylene: It was a number of different reasons actually. I’m in a really amazing relationship where we’re pretty open and we wanted to bring some people into the picture—some girls or guys into our sexual situation. My husband was also interested in getting into the business at about the time that we met. So now I figured it was time to take advantage of the rest of my youth and my looks, and get in and make a go of it. Also, I had a lot of fan requests to come back. I’ve been getting them throughout the years through my fan mail and my Myspace (RayleneXXX) and Facebook [pages], and all of that. People have been asking, and I figured since I do have a fan base there, there’s somebody to perform for.
SH: How did it feel to set foot onto a porn shoot after being away from it for so long? Was it like riding a bike, you never forget, or were you a little rusty at first?
Raylene: It was definitely not like that. [laughs] It was very nerve-racking, actually. Like I said, I’ve adjusted to a different way of life so it was pretty nerve-racking to be back in front of the camera again. I was pretty self-conscious because I’ve had a baby—I have a three-year-old son. So I had a baby, I’m married, I hadn’t really been in the spotlight for a long time, so I was really, really nervous. And I’m lucky that it turned out the way it did. It went great because it really could’ve gone the other direction.
SH: Was it fun?
Raylene: I did have fun. It was a blast. I had a great time on set. I worked with a great crew of people and the talent I was working with were awesome, and I’m really thankful that I got to work with such great people.
SH: The name of the Vivid movie you made your comeback in is called Raylene’s Dirty Work. Can you tell me what the movie is about?
Raylene: It’s really a Vivid gonzo movie, and it’s based around cleaning. [laughs] No dialogue, it wasn’t scripted. It was just based around cleaning the house; that was it.
SH: Usually with Vivid, they allow the girls to choose who they wish to work with? Were you allowed to do that?
Raylene: I was allowed to do anything I wanted to but unfortunately, since it’s been so long—there’s been an eight-year break since I’ve been in the business—a lot of the talent that I was working with back when I was working are either gone or they’re directors. So, there’s a whole slew of new talent out there that I don’t know. So, it’s kind of a crap shoot for me, you know? [laughs] It didn’t matter who they picked for me. I still was not going to know them. So I just put it in the hands of the director and I got really lucky that I ended up with a great cast of guys, and the one girl I worked with—Gianna Michaels—she was great. She’s awesome. She’s so much fun.
SH: Who were the guys that you worked with?
Raylene: I did a boy/boy/girl with Mick Blue and Jerry, and I did a scene with Mr. Pete.
SH: Did you enjoy working with B. Skow?
Raylene: He’s great. He and I go way back. We’ve been friends for a very long time. I’ve worked with him in the past on other projects. It was a very small set; only the makeup artist and B. Skow and the other camera guys who also worked with Vivid and who I knew from before, so it was a really easy time for me and it was always great working with him. We always have a great time together and we have a great rapport.
SH: You also shot recently for Tom Byron in Seasoned Players Meets Asseaters Unanimous. What was working with him again after all these years?
Raylene: It’s very interesting. I loved working with him. I always have loved working with Tom. The industry has changed so much that when they said it was called Asseaters, I thought he was eating my ass. [laughs] I didn’t know I was eating his ass, and I didn’t find out until the last minute. So when I found out I was eating his ass, I jumped for joy. [laughs] You will never see a scene like that ever again in my career, but I’m so glad that it was with him and for his line of movies because he’s a force to be reckoned with, and I really, really think he’s an amazing director.
Every Vivid girl needs to have a really dirty movie out there, I think, and that’s going to be my number one dirty, dirty movie. I also did a movie for Vince Vouyer called Raylene Returns. I’m in every scene, there are five scenes, and it’s more of a reality-based movie. He pretty much follows me throughout my life and getting back into the business, and it’s a pretty great movie. There are two anal scenes in it, and it’s really very realistic and not very vanilla at all. [laughs]
SH:So, this is pure hardcore gonzo?
Raylene: It is pure hardcore gonzo, and that one is definitely for the fans. That movie was made for the fans and I hope they enjoy it because it was really, really fun, and really, really dirty. So there you go, there’s dirty movie number two.
SH: Do you intend to do the softer, feature stuff you were known for or more of the gonzo stuff or both?
Raylene: I think I’m going to do a little bit of both. So far, I’ve done mostly gonzo stuff. All of July I worked for Zero Tolerance and I think I’ve done eight scenes for them now. They gave me a pretty great deal; I did a lot of work for them and I did some great scenes for them. Their stuff is pretty gonzo. Right now, I’m working with people that I know and that I like, and that I know do good work, whether it’s gonzo or not, doesn’t really matter to me as long as there’s some good sex in there. I do think there needs to be some more gonzo product out there of me because the fans have said that some of the work I’ve done is a little too vanilla for them.
So I’m really going to focus on doing a lot of gonzo and I think I will be back in the feature market soon. I’m actually going to start shooting my own projects, which I’m going to mix very pretty vignettes/ feature-type material, and then I’m also going to do some gonzo so that there’s product out there for both markets: people who don’t want to see such dirty hardcore stuff, and people that do. I’m going to make sure that there’s an even balance out there.
SH: I’m guessing some of the themes you’ve shot were MILF/cougar-themed scenes. How do you feel about the theme and its popularity?
Raylene: The first movie I shot for Zero Tolerance was called Dirty Over Thirty, and I share the box cover with Dyanna Lauren. All of the women who are doing these movies are from my genre so it’s not an insult, and technically I am a mom so I am a MILF. [laughs] So, it doesn’t really bother me. The only thing that I had a tough time with was working with the young group of actors. I think they’re beautiful, they’re hot, they’re having hot sex. I’m just having a hard time keeping up with them. They have so much energy. [laughs] They make me feel like an old bat and I’m only 32. [laughs] I just don’t want to feel like I’m taking advantage of any of these young people.
SH: By the way, you’re not an old bat.
Raylene: In this business, I’m an old bat. But I’ve enjoyed who I’ve been working with so far. There’s a couple of real cuties out there. One of my favorites is Kristina Rose. She’s great. I just did a scene with her recently.
SH: Are you able to keep up with the young girls? They have a lot of energy, too.
Raylene: I am. I’ve only worked with a few that are really in the underage bracket. James Deen, who’s awesome, is great. He’s right on my same level. He’s got an old soul, that guy. He’s a good performer and I really like him a lot. He’s a young guy, though.
SH: Are you personally attracted to younger guys, around 25, 26?
Raylene: No. [laughs] I never have been attracted to anyone that’s younger, even when I was younger. Eighteen years old I was looking for guys that were the age I am now. Even the guys that are in their 30s, I feel that they are too young. I like older men, that’s always what I’ve been into. But these young guys aren’t slouches, I like them too. They’re really fun to work with. I don’t think I’d date any of them but they’re good for a one-day thing. [laughs]
SH: Did you miss shooting movies and the industry while you were away from the business? Had you considered coming back before?
Raylene: I considered coming back briefly, about four years ago, but to be honest with you I really didn’t miss the business at all. I really needed that break and I needed that chance to grow up and find myself. It didn’t really occur to me until this time last year that I kind of miss the business. I needed to be in the real world and I was selling real estate for a while. I still do sell real estate. I needed to be out in front of the camera so I could find myself and get my feet back on the ground. Now that I am on the ground, I did miss the business. I wanted to be in front of the camera and have a little bit more fun. But I’m glad I had that time to ground myself.
SH: What did you most miss most and least about the industry while you were gone?
Raylene: I missed photo shoots for sure. I love shooting pictures. What I missed the least was getting tested and having a needle stuck into my arm every 20 days. [laughs] I hate needles. But actually, I wasn’t too far away from the business. I still had friends in it, and I built my real estate business around the adult industry, and helped a lot of adult actors and directors get into homes.
SH: You made no secret that part of the reason you returned to shooting porn was because business in the real estate market was slow. Is that true?
Raylene: That was one of the reasons, and that there was really no work for me to go back to. When I stayed home with my son for the first two years, I took a break from real estate, and it was when the market crashed. I didn’t keep up with my clients or my business. It was time for me to get back to work, and with the economy the way it is, the smart thing for me to do was to follow my instinct and get back into the business, and really go with my heart with what I wanted to do, and that’s what I did. Getting back into the adult business has enabled me to have the time to focus on my real estate career, so now I can kind of split it in two and do both. Right now, I’m actually in the middle of a great real estate deal. So, I’m pretty happy.
SH: Do you intend to return to real estate fulltime when business picks up?
Raylene: Like I said, I’m going to start shooting my own series in the next couple of months and we’ll see how that works out. If it works, then I’m just going to do both. I kind of don’t want to put all my eggs in one basket at this point because I like being in the adult business and I think that I really need to run with it because I have a lot of fans. I don’t want to let real estate go either, but it’s a really stressful job. So to sit in real estate all day long with the stress of that, and not have the outlet to be able to do some adult films, it wouldn’t be good. I want the porn. [laughs] The porn is good. It’s been great for my marriage.
SH: When you announced you were coming back, the fans were excited about your return. Were you surprised that the fans still remembered you?
Raylene: I was surprised actually. Anyone who requested me on Facebook or Myspace, I’m pretty surprised that they remembered me. [laughs]
SH: What did you mean when you told AVN, "My husband and I are pretty open; we have kind of a weird, freaky relationship."
Raylene: We love the whole swinging aspect of things, and bringing girls home and stuff like that. To me, that’s freaky. That’s a little bit out of the norm compared to the real world.
SH: So, your marriage is like a porno in a way?
Raylene: Yeah it is. I just broke my husband into the business so you’ll be seeing a lot more of him. Not with me. You’ll probably see a couple of scenes with him and I. But he’s going to be working with a couple of other people soon. He recently just did his first scene.
SH: Did you have to coach him, give him any pointers?
Raylene: I did. That’s why we turned the camera on in the bedroom so I can show him what to do. [laughs] We know what to do in the bedroom, but as far as camera is concerned, there’s some positions and ways to open up so the camera can see. I had to show him the ropes.
SH: Since returning to porn and shooting a few scenes, what do you know today you wish you knew when you started out in the business 10 years ago?
Raylene: I can’t really answer that question because I wouldn’t have ever known what I know now back then. I’ve learned a lot growing up. I was just really young back then. I was young and reckless, and I partied a lot. But to be honest with you, I don’t know if I would’ve changed that about myself back then because it was a learning experience. Now that I don’t do those things, I look back and I go back and go, “What a dummy I was.” I learned a lot about myself during that time. So, I don’t really know if there’s anything I would change. I just know not to do those same things now. BehindtheSceneswithRaylene
