Leader of Kane Army Discusses Making her Mark in Porn, Her Passion for Adult Filmmaking, and Why Strip Club Monsters are not Cute!

by Robin Perez

SexHerald: When you were younger, where did you imagine you’d be at 24?

Kimberly Kane: Obviously, I didn’t really think about it. This is how I think of life. Never step backwards, keep moving forward. Keep moving towards the goal. I want to get a house, I bought a car . . . you know what I mean? I have normal goals set, and I just don’t ever fall backwards. Like when people ask me why don’t I feature dance? I danced when I was 18 for a year, and that’s it. I wanted to get out of the club. I don’t want to feature dance. That’s moving backwards for me, in my opinion, going back to the strip club. I guess I just keep baby stepping, and it’s working out. Things are going good for my career. My personal life, things are going pretty, pretty good.

SH: Before entering porn, did you watch porn? What sort of porn movies did you watch?

Kane: I watched Barely Legal only because at the time, I was 18 and a friend of mine had a big collection of them that she gave me. And, so I watched those and they were awesome.

SH: You jumped at the chance to visit a porn set. Isn’t that how you got into porn?

Kane: Yeah, I didn’t necessarily jump at it. My friend who gave me the collection, her name was Rose and she got into the business. She invited me onto a porn set, because she had to go pick up a check from Pat Myne. And I didn’t jump at it, necessarily, because I was kind of leery but interested and curious. And it was great, it was really cool. Everyone was really rad.

SH: Was a scene actually going on at the time?

Kane: I walked in as Emily Da Vinci was fucking some dude, and it was cool. She was a blast. She’s still one of my favorite porn stars even though she really doesn’t do movies anymore. But I’ll always remember that. I’ll always remember how clean the house was, and how nice everyone was. And people were happy to be there. It was crazed. It was like really cool, because I thought I was going to be walking into something dark, and I walked into something light.

SH: From there you were hooked, you had to get into this business?

Kane: Well, I originally agreed to do a scene because I wanted to go home. I wanted to go back to Oregon, and I didn’t have any money to do it. And when I was offered to do a scene, I wasn’t opposed to it because it looked really fun. And so, I was like, “Yeah, I’ll do it.” I got tested, I did a scene, and I made money, and it was the first time I ever had that much money in my hand.
I was a fucking kid, and I was like “Wooo!” So I went home, I paid the rent, like it was awesome. And then the agent who was there who kind of like became my agent for a minute, was calling me and saying people are interested. People want to shoot you. Then I started really doing my homework. And I started to realize that there are really cool opportunities in this business, and really cool people. That’s whom I strive to be around and work with. Now I am.

SH: Today, do you still get excited going to work?

Kane: Yeah, if I’m not considering work that day. Like I did a movie with Bob Culture, and it was like a six-day shoot. We went out to the desert, we were doing all this crazy shit, and that is like a project where everyone . . . it’s a small group of people, and we all have one goal to make a kickass movie. And I get excited when I go and I direct, and I get excited when I work with people that I know are super-creative. Other than that, it’s work. I’ve been doing some other stuff other than performing. The directing stuff, of course. And then I’ve also been shooting boys masturbating for a site I’m starting with Hush Hush Entertainment—the people who do Blackzilla. That’s going to be interesting because I’ve been shooting boys masturbating on the side for two years. And they finally gave me the opportunity to start a real good site. So I’ve been editing and doing photography on that, and it’s good. It’s going to be good for that market.

SH: I won’t be watching, but I wish you the best of luck with that. Will that be geared towards gay men or for women or both?

Kane: It’s girls watching boys kind of thing. It’s like me and my girlfriends watching guys masturbate because we like to see it. It doesn’t really matter who watches it. Whoever signs up as a member is more than welcome to. But my opinion on it is girls watching boys, but the boys are straight and they’re really good-looking. So I would assume that gay guys would like to see it, too.

SH: Will there be any female nudity?

Kane: Actually, yes. There is. Sometimes I turn the camera on myself, and I’ll shoot topless or pantyless or something, and I touch and stuff. I reach out and touch them, because I shoot it so I have to hold the camera.

SH: So do you see yourself not performing at all one day and just focusing on directing?

Kane: I’m always going to focus on creating things. Projects, producing content that I think is worthy enough for people to see, not just garbage. I don’t want to perform after 25, and a lot of girls say that. I’m not going to say, “I’m not going to perform after 25.” I’m saying if a really rad, amazing project comes along, yeah maybe I would be into it. But there is a point where I do want to just focus on being behind the camera. I’ve been in this business since I was 19. I’ve been doing it for five years now. Like yeah, even I get sick of myself sometimes. You know what I mean . . .

SH: So one day there will be a time when you will say goodbye to performing.

Kane: Absolutely. I think everybody does. Except Nina Hartley. [Laughs]

SH: Yeah, her and there are few others still performing in their 30s and 40s.

Kane: Yeah, I don’t want to be that. I want my vagina to be exclusive to my husband. [Laughs]

SH: I did want to ask you, is it true your mother was involved in the adult industry?

Kane: She produced a softcore film called the Masked Charade with the Porcelain Twinz. It was actually one of the first creative film projects I’ve ever been witness to. It’s a really amazing movie, and it’s hard to find, it’s hard to get, but it was great. It was a real inspiration. She wasn’t in the business down here. She never did a scene. She was a Hawaiian Tropics winner. She would never, ever, ever fucking ever do porn, but she did produce a softcore film that was amazing.

SH: How does she feel about you being a performer?

Kane: She’s proud of me because I never lost it. I’m not doing it to support any habit. I’m very healthy and I grew up around this shit. When I came into this business, I was no babe in the woods. This business does not affect me like it affects some kids from Iowa that’s cute with a tight ass that came out to Hollywood on a bus and got into porno and got all fucked up. I was already fucked up before porno. So porno was nothing to me. So, I’m good and my mom sees that. And she loves the fact that I’m [on the cover] of Bizarre Magazine, and she loves it. She’s totally into the fact that I’m happy, I’m healthy. I’m stable, I have a good place, I’m in Hollywood . . . she’s a cool chick. We’ve had our problems and our issues, and this and that, like every mother/daughter does but she wants to really be a part of my life. And she wants to be supportive and I’ll tell you what, the second she thought I was fucked up, or this business was getting to me, she would say that she didn’t approve of it, but it never has.

SH: Now that you’re focusing mainly on directing, what are the kinds of adult films you want to make?

Kane: I make movies that I want to see like Naked and Famous, Triple Ecstasy coming out on Halloween, through Vivid Alt. I just make things that I want to see. I have fantasies and I put them into the movies. I have life experience that I put into the movies. Actually, in my next movie that’s going to be coming out through Vivid Alt is called Morphine, and it’s about a girl who works in jack shack in the South. It’s very much part of my life. I even went down to Nashville to get a feel for the area.

SH: What do you expect out of your performers in your movies?

Kane: I don’t really expect anything. I know things. Like I have an eye on who I use. I don’t really use any strangers or any people that I don’t know. Everyone I use I’ve worked with before and I think are super rad, awesome performers. And I pair them up with equal talent that it would make a beautiful scene. I don’t expect anything but for them to be just themselves.

SH: You’ve been very identified with Alt Porn. Why do you feel it’s strived?

Kane: I think people are really becoming aware of it because people have been sick of porn for a long time. Like part of the interview I do with Bizarre is, I tell them that bimbos with hair extensions and brown tans and big fake tits are being phased out. There’s a newer, younger generation of people and filmmakers making movies, and they’re considered alt porn. And alt porn isn’t tattoos, it isn’t piercings because I don’t have one tattoo, and I don’t have one piercing and I’ve been in a lot of alt movies. It’s about style, and it’s about a new way of looking at sexuality. I like a couple of girls that have fake tits. Like two, that’s it. And I am a porn fan. I watch porn. And I want people that are like me. I want to see people that I think are cute. I don’t think a 35-year-old, haggard whore is cute or a strip club monster is cute. I think people that I identified with are cool, and I want to see them fuck.

Alt porn has been around for a while, but in this last year it has blown up so much because people are starting to catch on, and people are tired of this old porn system. Alt porn is breaking that and alt porn is different, and people want to see different things. That bimbo doesn’t match everyone’s idea of beauty. To some people that appeals to and to some people it doesn’t. So the people who the strip club monster doesn’t appeal to, they’re looking for something else. They’ll find burningangel.com, they’ll find suicide girls, they’ll find Vivid Alt. They’ll search out more artists that are doing something. There’s a whole sub-culture of filmmakers and photographers and artists that have been doing this for a long time. You find them when the strip club monster doesn’t appeal to you.

SH: I want to give you a list of people and you tell me what you think of them.

Kane: OK.

SH: Joe Gallant.

Kane: I love Joe Gallant. I gave him my first anal scene. I’ve never done one since. I love him, I think he’s an amazing artist and I like questionable porn, and his is questionable.

SH: Mark Spiegler.

Kane: Mark Spiegler was my first agent. He taught me a lot of things that I still use to this day as far as dealing with companies and being professional. I respect Spiegler.

SH: Jack the Zipper

Kane: He’s the ex, what can I say.

SH: Belladonna.

Kane: Love her. She’s one of the most innovative, sexual performers ever to get naked on film. She’s above and beyond. She’s on a different level of sexuality.

SH: Ashley Blue.

Kane: Ashley Blue, another person that’s a total sexual Jedi.

SH: Eon McKai.

Kane: Eon McKai is my bossy boss. He’s the reason why I have a gig. He’s the reason why I have a job directing porn. I love him to death, I owe him a lot.

SH: Dave Naz.

Kane: I’ve known Dave for years. Dave’s an amazing photographer. He shot me more times than most people, and he’s a good filmmaker. I really respect him.

SH: Savanna Samson.

Kane: Savanah is one of my favorite girls to work with, and she says the same about me. She is a beautiful person, inside and out.

SH: Jim Powers.

Kane: [Laughs] I love Jim Powers! I love him. He’s amazing, and he makes the Violation of series, and Violations is one of my favorite series ever in porno, and he makes the Girlvert movies. He’s fucking amazing.

SH: Is porn your career for life?

Kane: My answer to that is . . . I’m a lifer. I think I am. I don’t know anything else and I’ve been at this for more than five years. I’ve been around the adult business since I was teenager. I don’t know any other way so in that, I’m a lifer. I don’t have any other interests in anything else other than to make sexual art, photography, anything. It’s my only interest, my only passion—filmmaking and photography. So in that aspect yeah, I really am a lifer.

SH: What would you like people to say about you in the future?

Kane: I hope that people can say, excluding my first year in the business because that was getting to know people. But I hope people can say that I made good movies and I hope that they can say that I was creative, or I made some kind of mark in this business. Or that I inspired some girl to pick up a camera. I don’t know. I hope that I leave something positive.

SH: Anything else you want to add before I let you go?

Kane: KaneArmy.com.
