SexHerald: What was the best part about shooting Island Fever 4?
Jesse Jane: Of course, going to Bora Bora. We were secluded in such a beautiful place. It was just awesome. The all-girl orgy, that was just insane! I love all of those girls. I like them all in their different ways. What was really cool about shooting Island Fever 4 was all of us together—because you’re on an island where your phones don’t work. You’re all together instead of only one person or only this person in the movie. You have all four of us, and it was cool. We all hung out, Teagan and I hung out a lot. We went snorkeling and stuff, and it was fun.
SH: You were completely secluded from what was going on everywhere else?
Jane: Yeah because until the very last day, we were living off of solar energy. So there was no electricity, nobody’s phone worked until the last two days. We had a big huge portable jack, and taking the boat to go to the island to get food. It was crazy. It was like our own porn star Survivor. It was kind of fun.
SH: Which experience was more fun, shooting Island Fever 4 or shooting Pirates?
Jane: Pirates.
SH: Will there be a sequel to Pirates?
Jane: You know, I got in trouble before for saying this but I’ve said it before so just say yeah. [Laughs]
SH: Janine has said she had a lot of fun working with you in Pirates. What was it like working with a superstar like Janine?
Jane: She’s awesome. She’s my favorite. I had so much fun. Janine is awesome, she’s beautiful, she’s a legend. It was fun!
SH: Is there a porn star from the past you’d like to work with?
Jane: Traci Lords, woohoo!
SH: What was your life like growing up in Texas?
Jane: My dad was in the Air Force, so I was a military brat and we moved around a lot. I was born in Texas and I moved around all over Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. I had a great life. It was fun, I moved a lot and developed my social skills and met new people and different kinds of people, and moved to different places. It was fun, I didn’t have a bad childhood, I experienced a lot, and did the whole high school/cheerleader and student council thing, and I played soccer. I was just your typical normal high school girl.
SH: Being a porn star is not a bad way to make a living.
Jane: I love it. I just wish sometimes it would spread out a little bit. I’ve literally been on a plane every week for two months because we’ve been on this Island Fever 4 tour, and now I’m dancing and then I have my Playboy show and promos to shoot. Then I have to leave for Australia for this expo. I’ve been living on a plane. I’ve been home for half a day. I haven’t even had a full-day home.
SH: I saw you on an HBO documentary for the book XXX: 30 Porn-Star Portraits, and you discussed that you had wanted to enter the porn industry. What is it about the business that interests you?
Jane: I’m the one who sought it out. Nobody sought me out. I’ve always wanted to be a sex symbol so I actually contacted Digital Playground. The day I did, they called me back that day. They said they had a plane ticket for me to come out to LA, because they wanted to talk to me. I was really lucky. It couldn’t have worked out better. Some people hate it. Some people get mad at me, saying I didn’t pay my dues. Please, I work real hard. They don’t even know the half of it.
SH: Do you watch porn?
Jane: No, I used to watch porn but now I can’t because it doesn’t turn me on because I know what happens on camera or I know the people. Porn doesn’t turn me on anymore. I don’t watch it. I can’t watch it. You just know things that are going on. It’s hard to pretend not to know.
SH: You were already a little bit of a sex symbol before porn. What were you doing before you entered the business?
Jane: I was a regional training coordinator for Hooters and I was a Hawaiian Tropics bikini model.
SH: Did you love the attention you received from doing that?
Jane: Yeah, but it wasn’t enough. It wasn’t complete fulfillment. I wanted more! I wanted the world. [Laughs] I wanted the good sex, I wanted to be crazy and be free and have fun, and get nasty.
SH: Was the industry what you expected it to be like when you entered it? What surprised you most about the business?
Jane: The industry has a lot more going on than what I thought. How to make films, the deals, didn’t know about the different types of promotions, marketing, photo shoots, traveling. It was a lot more than I expected it but I love it. I’m very intrigued by it. What surprised me was all the crazy, crazy shit I’ve never seen before. I was oblivious to it. Some of the stuff that goes on like some of the weird fetishes and stuff shocks me.
SH: Have you achieved your goals you sought out when you entered the business or do you have more goals you want to achieve?
Jane: Yeah, I achieved a lot of them. I’m not totally done yet. I want to produce some of my own titles, and I’ve just got more plans because like I said, there’s lots more to this industry than I thought. I’m very intrigued by it. I want to do more, I want to do all I can, I want to leave my name down in history so I’m going to do what I can to achieve that goal. That’s my main goal—I want to be a legend. I want to be in it for a long time, make my own stuff so in 10 years down the road people remember the name Jesse Jane!
SH: Because you are an adult actress, has finding work in the mainstream world been difficult? What sort of mainstream goals do you want to achieve?
Jane: No, but actually I don’t really care. I don’t want to be mainstream. But I’ve found stuff, I’ve had opportunities—being in music videos, a couple of episodes of Entourage, Family Business even though it has to do with porn but it’s Showtime. So I’ve found stuff and I’ve had other opportunities. But I don’t seek out for it. I’m proud of what I’m doing, which is achieving goals to be more successful in porn.
SH: You are arguably the hottest porn star working today. What does it take to be the world’s hottest porn star?
Jane: Don’t think it can just be handed to you. You got to work for it. You got to want to be a sex symbol and give it your all. You gotta do radio, photo shoots to promote yourself, you gotta do magazines. You have to do everything you can to get out there. Do a website, do a daily diary, be personable with your fans. A lot of people aren’t. And just want it. You gotta want it. You gotta have the drive and that will make you very successful.
