SexHerald: How did you get started in porn?

CJ Wright: A friend of mine met [former porn performer] Darren James at a gym. At the time, I didn’t really think about being in porn. So Darren told my friend that it would be a good option if he gave it a try. Through my friend, he met Darren, and then he met with Marc Anthony. Then through Marc I met up with other people. It all happened so fast in like a two-month period. I got my first official chance when a guy didn’t show up and they had to reschedule the scene. Marc just said, “Give it a shot.” So I did. This was in late 2006, early 2007.

SH: Were you a fan of porn before entering the business?

Wright: I was but I was more a fan of website-type porn. One of my favorite websites was ButtJungle.com. It was actually a BBW website. [laughs] That was one of my favorite websites at the time. I would always just go back and view it. I’ve always been a fan of porn. I guess from a consumer standpoint, I’m a young guy, single, and who doesn’t love porn?

SH: What goals did you have when you entered the business and realized you wanted to pursue performing in porn full time?

Wright: Initially, when I first got in, I viewed it as a young man who can get to mess around with chicks. But after the first two months, I started a chart of guys in the industry. I focused first on the black performers, people who I was closest too. I kind of sized them up and thought from what I saw, how many of these guys are really taking this seriously and how many of these guys are taking care of their bodies? How many of these guys are getting rest and not drinking, not smoking? Who is really trying to rise to a level of ownership, building a brand? So when I saw that, this is my exact thought: “I want to do porn but with an Usher-type brand.”

Usher is mainstream and everyone loves him. He can do no wrong and whatever he puts his hands on becomes successful. I wanted to add a different type of vibe to it. My goal early on was to learn. And as I started to meet more people, especially people who have been in the industry for a while, I was always asking them questions and I was always showing my true interest. Whatever they had to say my ears were wide open. I’m listening. Initially, it wasn’t about my BBW stuff; initially, it was about getting CJ Wright through the door. Build a good reputation of being on time, always having your test with you, always being respectful, always understanding that this is someone’s money and someone’s time, and someone’s investment. So, treat that accordingly. I noticed quickly that a lot of directors talked about that. They talked about me being punctual, and me being on time and always having my paperwork. They talked about that more than my actual performance. That got me jobs more than me doing good scenes. With that, it’s always been one step at a time. I always wanted to brand my name among directors first so that way I can always be on everyone’s list.

SH: Are you comfortable with the title King of the BBWs?

Wright: I apply a lot of things that I go through in life to how I live my porn life. Not saying that I live a porn life because I never party, I never go out and I never drink. But just the way I conduct myself when porn is involved, I apply my home lifestyle to porn. I make better decisions. So with that title, I definitely won’t turn it down. If the people want to give me that title, then I’m definitely going to take it. And I’ll take it with comfort because I really do care about what I do. My BBW product, I care a lot. Not in a way that’s arrogant but it’s just I always want to see the best for the chick. I always want to see the best for the young lady. I always want to see her at her highest level. In my videos it’s always about the girl because to me, I’m the one who’s about to perform with her. So I want it to be all about her. I want to see all her skin, all her flesh, all her movements. That’s what gets me going. That’s my fantasy and that’s what gets me up.

SH: We both love BBWs, especially seeing their bodies in motion. Tell me how important the tease is for you.

Wright: Here’s where I get pride through; the tease to me is actually like an identity of that young lady. The tease to me, everything from the music, her outfit, her hair, her charisma, they can never do anything wrong if it comes from them and if it comes from their heart. It cannot be wrong. The tease to me is what separates the good and the bad. It’s what separates Wicked and Vivid from Black Market. It just makes it so precise and so superior for a tease to be so glamorous and sexy. If a chick can pull you in with her tease, it’s so important.

SH: Jules Jordan is someone who also loves to focus in on the girl and do a long tease sequence. Is he an influence on how you do your tease sequences?

Wright: It’s funny, but no. Believe it or not, when I reference Jules Jordan or Wicked and Vivid, what I’m saying really is how much respect they have from fans in the industry. People know that it’s going to be quality stuff. So when I reference those guys, my biggest thing when I started doing BBW was that I was going to put this together and I’m going to brand this. I went through so many companies just to look at their stuff, and so many companies that shoot BBW product only shoot it with a quick buck mentality. But what Wicked, Vivid, Digital Playground, the way they treat their girls on camera and the way they display their girls, you would think these girls are like big-time Hollywood stars. With me, that’s how I want to learn to display my chick. I want to display my chick like that.

SH: In the past, when it was mainly the smaller studios that produced BBW stuff, often was mediocre at best. What’s your take on some of the BBW stuff that was out there before?

Wright: I remember the day I turned 18, I walked into an adult store looking for BBW porn and I was so fucking disappointed. I had to settle for what they had. I look at all their stuff and I never knock anyone’s hustle because only they know the system and the formula for their own product. If they’re putting it out every single month that means somebody’s buying it. I’m not saying my stuff is right or their stuff is right. I’m just saying my path is different. For the fans that enjoy my product, I appreciate it. For the fans that enjoy their product, I say more power to them.

SH: So, it’s clear you’ve always been into BBWs.

Wright: Definitely. I know how society might see them. You can’t really beat society. Society, once you have a certain outlook, it just is what it is because of society. So to me, I don’t even see a BBW. I don’t see a title. I just see a woman I’m attracted to. I don’t even see size. I just see a hot chick; I want to get with her. I just go for it. My whole life has pretty much been like that. When people ask me how long have I been into big chicks, I say to them how long have they been into skinny chicks. I’ve been liking them as long as I knew what it meant to like a woman.

SH: Studios like West Coast and Evasive Angles that have BBW lines . . . are there things they do in their lines you do or don’t do in your movies?

Wright: I do anything to be as opposite from them. Anything. Let me word this carefully because I don’t want to offend anyone, but I’ll look at some of the stuff they put out and I’ll look at the way they put it out, and while I know there are other people that like it, that’s just not how I plan on doing it. I’m sure they look at other products and say that they’re not doing it that way.

SH: What are your goals with CJWrightXXX.com?

Wright: I want people to say that when CJ Wright is in that scene, no matter who the chick is, but especially with my BBW women, that they know he’s going to give it his all. I’ll never try to cheat the fans out of their money. I’ll always give them something for their money. Not so much because I feel that I have to but because I really just love plus-size women and I love having sex with them. It comes out on camera. What I’m striving for is for the fan’s trust. It’s important for someone to say, “CJ Wright’s name on it, I want to buy it because I know his DVDs are good, his quality is good.” I don’t just want to be a name; I really want to be a brand. Like if it came from CJ Wright it’s got to be good.

SH: What’s your outlook on the future of BBW porn? Will it go further in the porn mainstream or remain a niche? Will we ever see a BBW in a Vivid or Digital Playground movie?

Wright: You probably won’t ever see a BBW in a Vivid movie but chances are you won’t ever see CJ Wright in a Vivid movie. That’s just the truth and that’s just how Vivid rolls. No matter who you are, they’re not feeling you, it is what it is.

The funny thing is, to us and the people in our community, we don’t even see specialty or a genre. We don’t see a BBW party. To us, it’s a regular thing. As a genre, BBW as a whole, it’s going to be a long road. I’m not going to bullshit you. And the reason why is because there are not enough people shooting the best quality content that they can. There are only a handful of people doing it. More importantly, not every girl who’s overweight is a BBW. Just like there are skinny chicks that are not attractive. Everybody might not think I’m attractive. Or they might not have the attitude to make it. To me that’s really important. If you have the attitude to carry that shit over, to command that audience, that’s what’s important on an overall scale. I think it’s going to take people like me to knock down these doors. It’s going to take some time but it can be done.

SH: Your contract girl, Victoria Secret. Why did you make her your first contract girl and what’s so special about her?

Wright: She hasn’t done a super-huge amount of work. She’s done three movies for me and with the ideas that I have and her willingness to want to try things, and more importantly she trusts me to not put her in positions that will make her look stupid. She’s liked by everybody, even guys who are not into BBWs; they always hit me up about her. Whatever emails I get, a big portion of those emails are about her. I felt that a partnership wouldn’t be bad at all. At the very least, we didn’t have anything to lose. She’s local so that helps me out a lot. I’m cool with her as a person, so it all just came together. I have her working once a month but I want to take that whole month to plan out that one scene and make that scene the best.

SH: Sexually, does she have any special talents?

Wright: [laughs] Overall, she just gives a good scene. I think the reason she does good scenes is because this is natural for her. She really enjoys having sex. She can be dominant, submissive, she likes to take control, and sometimes she likes to be told what to do. It depends on the atmosphere of that day. She loses herself, gets into it and just has fun; it’s all fun and it’s all sexy. I think a lot of people lover her body type. The way she carries herself, she just has it. And she’s a beautiful girl. Her face is extremely pretty. On camera, she just has a young spirit. She doesn’t hurry up to get the scene over with. She really comes to enjoy herself. That shows on camera and it shows in her scenes.

SH: In my opinion, you can’t have a discussion about BBWs in porn without mentioning April Flores, who I think is the top BBW in the business. How do you feel about her?

Wright: April is a big name because she knows how to market herself. I think she’s another person who will definitely put BBWs in the mainstream. She does a lot of exhibits, she just recently became the first BBW to have her pussy molded, and that’s a big step for BBWs in the community. And she has a great support system. Considering she’s done less than five boy/girl scenes total, I would say she is the top BBW in porn. She reigns supreme because everyone respects her, period. I respect her too, a lot.

SH: You don’t see a lot of BBW lesbian stuff. Is that something you’ll consider doing soon?

Wright: Recently, with kind of a small twist, I filmed a scene recently with the BBWs wrestling. Real, full-blown wrestling shoes, socks, ear guards, all that. The focus of that scene wasn’t for them to wrestle but to wrestle with a solid sexual tension. I filmed the scene with three different cameras at one time to get the best possible angles. I got mixed reviews but on an overall scale, everyone said that it was really hot because it was tense and it was sexy. It’s hard but it’s still sexy. So with that, I am going into a lot more girl/girl action because it turns me on. I do what turns me on, so I’ll try it.

SH: What does the future hold for you?

Wright: For me, I really do feel there’s only one direction to go. I never see myself going backwards. I don’t see myself making the same mistakes over and over again. It’s a constant process to just learn more and more. A lot of people ask me why I concentrate so much on BBW porn. It’s such a small genre of porn compared to the overall industry. To me, that’s OK because I can master this genre and be OK here because this is what I like and what I enjoy. I want my company, CJ Wright, to be the one and only go to person. Go to CJ Wright the same way people go to Jules Jordan. As far as the future, I just want people to respect me as that.
