Always read more than you write. Immerse
yourself in the type of stories you want to
create. For a writer who wants to write
short erotic fiction, I'd suggest books such
as Best American Erotica edited by Susie
Bright or Herotica.
Frequent online sites, as well, that promote
quality fiction such as the debut issue of
Sex Herald's fiction section, Mind Caviar
(http://www.mindcaviar.com), and Clean
Sheets (http://www.cleansheets.com).
Also, don't be afraid to get involved with
your peers and ask for insight on your
work. There are a lot of fair and helpful
writing groups on the net. All these things
will help your writing skills mature.
Read, read, read and don't be afraid of
constructive criticism. And study. Perfect
your grammar and punctuation. Read books on
self-editing.
The become great requires constantly
evolving, constantly growing. Open yourself
up to knowledge, experience, and greatness
and that's the best place to start.
I'd like to welcome everyone to our newest section of SexHerald. Check out our Editor's Choice section to see our hand-picked erotica by fantastic writers. Submit your erotica and you may be featured in future issues. Authors: Share your tips on writing erotica. Enjoy! -Ken
A word on description: A thesaurus is your
best friend. Consult it often but remember
that sometimes less is more. Sometimes a
short story can be more powerful than a
novella. It all depends on how you word it.
Steer clear of strange decriptions for every
day things. Sometimes you end up with odd
combinations that don't work together. You
have to learn how to balance elaboration
with enigmatic prose. It can be done.
Remember too not to repeat yourself. If
you've already mentioned how soft her skin
is, don't mention it again. Try talking
about the color of her skin or if its
freckled. The key is not to decribed on
single item in loving detail but rather to
describe many things in good detail to give
readers a clear picture of what you see.
Make them taste it and smell it. Make your
work evocative of a mood and scenario. After
all, erotica is sensuous.
