The porn stars from Vivid Productions spend so much time on their backs, on each other, getting turned on and giving pleasure that they compiled their experiences into a book, rightly titled How To Have a XXX Sex Life by The Vivid Girls. In their book, they take what they've learned from their immeasurable experiences and apply it into a solid how-to book on sex that includes easy to follow lessons, helpful hints, product recommendations, personal profiles combined into well managed, easy to reference chapters.

Successive chapters, such as “Going Down (On Her)” and “Going Down (On Him)”, are good examples of what kind of offerings the book gives to the reader. In each chapter, the Vivid girls dispense useful advice, including tongue techniques for performing on females and males (to keep teeth off of penis place tongue on bottom teeth and lip over top teeth; try forming your tongue into a circle and penetrating her for a new experience) and blend it smoothly with hygiene recommendations (men shave face or condition beard, mustache or goatee; women trim and be clean) then supplement with personal accounts from the girls (“I learned to give head on a banana,” stated Sunrise).

Porn legend Jenna Jamison, a Vivid girl, weighs in on her personal preference, stating giving a blow job is the “thing I look forward to doing most” and her fellow Vivid girl Savanna says the key to not gagging is all in the angle of insertion.

The other chapters deal with issues ranging from Toy using to Tit pleasuring to Light Bondage and have lists of Vivid features, profiles of the contributing Vivid stars, Vivid Product listings, and Vivid Girl tips. The chapters all open with a scene from a Vivid movie to get you in the mood, however they bore more than stimulate and are best skipped to get back to the factual aspects of the book.

Amazingly, Vivid Productions pulls off all the self-promotion and constant product placement while producing an entertaining and enlightening book. One page alone references 7 Vivid productions. This can be seen as shameless, as does the manner in which they kept writing, “watching an adult movie on DVD is a great way to____”, but there is some usefulness in their advertising.

In chapter 10, “Bend over Babes and Boys”, you are told Vivid Girl Kira has double penetration scenes in two movies. Good to know if you are in the mood for watching Kira have anal sex. Chapter 11, The Money Shot, the movie One Way Out is referenced when relating how Dasha’s film partner ejaculates onto her feet – a great inside scoop for anyone searching for the right foot scene to get them off.

Vivid uneasily goes into a couple of subjects, mainly anything to do with men and anal. Their apologies and insistence that these acts are not gay, take away from the “how to” tone of this “whatever gets you off” book and are insulting to gay men (don’t gay men get/receive blow jobs and hand jobs too? there is no disclaimer with those acts). Also, they tiptoe around other fetishes the reader may have an interest that are not featured in a standard Vivid production.

How to Have a XXX Sex Life sticks to the sexual acts done in Vivid productions. If you’ve seen them, you will know what to expect. If you want to learn from the stars on how to do the moves and perform the acts they way they do, the book is for you.
