The come-on line of “What’s your sign?”—whether coming from someone you may consider attractive or loathsome—has elicited a number of responses from members of both sexes since its inception. Now, if you’re a believer or choose to admonish astrology signs as not being a real ‘science’ one has to admit that there is a strong following (and perhaps some truth or coincidence in some cases) that our birth signs lend some interesting details to discerning personality traits and social interactions.
Astrologically Incorrect for Lovers authoris astrologer, editor and writer Terry Marlowe’s follow-up to Astrologically Incorrect. In Lovers,Marlowe focused on how specific signs may suit your needs emotionally and physically while also supplying an outline of how each of the dozen signs typically behaves through humorous insight. When analyzing astrological signs many variants come into play what Marlowe does is take the more recognized traits to apply a certain ‘type’ one may expect to see in a male or female of the astrological sign referenced. Marlowe stated that she did not attempt to place specific standards on all of the signs–as she said in her introduction–however, when reading through each signs chapter it does seem that she did have her mind made up with statements like: “And Taurus will never, ever cheat.” Thus, the reader will want to read each chapter—especially in relation your own sign—with a grain of salt as to whether to take or leave some personal attributes.
To get an idea of the characteristics usually associated with each sign, here is a breakdown via Terry Marlowe’s descriptions:
Aries (the ram) has a tendency to be decisive, an egomaniac, and bored with catering to them.
Taurus (the bull) can be stoic, honest, a homebody, and more importantly has stamina in the bedroom.
Gemini (the twins) is known to be the life of the party, indigent, and rarely boring.
Cancer (the crab) may represent a nurturing attitude, occasionally jealous, with a problem-solving nature.
Leo (the lion) can be prideful, passionate (especially in the bedroom), and may reveal ideas of delusions of grandeur.
Virgo (the virgin) is known to be practical, sexual (despite the association to the virgin), and critical.
Libra (the scales) has a tendency to be fair and indecisive (being relationship junkies and all).
Scorpio (the scorpion/eagle) may act in an extreme manner when going after what they want, but also very loyal.
Sagittarius (the archer) is known to be positive, popular, as well as inattentive (though not maliciously).
Capricorn (the goat) may be emotionally guarded, predictable, and trustworthy.
Aquarius (the water bearer) can be detached, a humanitarian at heart, and is usually independent.
Pisces (the fishes) has a tendency to be unselfish, sensitive, and spiritual yet practical.
Along with Marlowe’s summations as listed above, chapters begin with an inventive and symbolic dating profile of each complete with posted answers and real answers for get-to-know-you the ubiquitous ‘favorite’ questions: movie, drink, music. Chapters go on to give introductions to meeting your new lover, what he/she responds to as a Pisces, Cancer, etc., the Dos and Don’ts of the relationship and how to keep your lover or leave that loser. The tail end of each has comparisons on how a particular sign may or may not romantically mesh with all of the other signs on the astrological plane.
Beyond the generalizations placed on signs one area that Marlowe could have done is to specify one or no genders when referencing the goat, the ram, the twins, etc. The fluctuation between him and her within each chapter can be confusing for the reader. Wait wasn’t the Taurus previously referred to as a man when talking about how did we get to a stubborn female reference? Sexual ambiguity would definitely work more as either way the same traits would successfully apply.
Astrologically Incorrect for Lovers has it moments when the reader may think “Wow that reminds me of so-and-so” which means that it can’t be complete nonsense in the long run. However venture into this territory with a true heart or a curious mind as Astrologically Incorrect may not suit your needs to every extent, but can give you a good arsenal the next time you are out on the town trying to surmise is that guy/gal at the bar is checking out how well put sensual yet understated your appearance is. If so, you may have an admirer in an Aries.
