A lifelong New Yorker, Kathryn Friedman is currently padding her resume at NYU’s Master’s program in general psychology. She hopes to get accepted into a Ph.D. program in social psychology, where she plans to study human sexuality from a women’s studies perspective focusing on self-esteem, gender roles, and sexual risk-taking behavior. Kathryn received her BA in psychology from Bard College at Simon’s Rock, writing a senior thesis entitled “Promiscuous Women: Sexual Attitudes, Sexual Behaviors, and Psychological Well Being,” in which she explored the stereotypes Americans hold about female sexuality. A former employee at an LGBT-oriented healthcare center and a sharp cultural critic, she strongly opposes governmental limitations on sexual information and services; she believes it is every American’s right to make informed decisions about his/her own sexuality and to be granted access to any unbiased and judgment-free healthcare service which medical science affords. In her spare time, Kathryn rollerblades, cuddles with her orange fluffy kitty, and seeks out blog-worthy experiences.
