It’s not often you see a vibrator that comes with its own wearable accessories. But I Rub My Duckie Pirate does just that. The little duck from those purveyors of whimsical bathtime fun is not only attired in a captain’s jacket, ascot and eyepatch, but includes his own tiny tricorn hat (waterproof, natch, just like the duckie itself) that you can set on the duckie’s head at a rakish angle. I’m not going to try to claim that said hat adds any value or function whatsoever to this incarnation of the popular I Rub My Duckie series, but come on—it’s adorable.
Clearly intended for gift-giving purposes, the tiny pirate (and his hat) come nestled in a “treasure chest”-style box lined with finest silk…okay, it’s rayon, but they did what they could. The cleverly disguised vibrator looks just like any other rubber duckie, but with a compartment for one AAA battery (not included) and an on/off dial. Other than the costume, this toy is strictly basic: one setting, medium intensity vibration, to get into the tub or shower, have your fun, and get out without making a big deal about it. Obviously, it doesn’t float quite like your run-of-the-mill rubber duckie, but the weight of the battery is actually helpful in keeping the little guy underwater if you’re using it in the bathtub. Ernie from Sesame Street would be scandalized.
When I tried Captain Bluebill out, I slipped him in the pocket of my robe before heading for the bathroom, where he has remained in the days since, looking dapper in the bandanna that goes under his hat (the hat, while cute, has proved too tricky to stay on with the knocking about that apparently goes on in our shower). The one issue I might raise with this toy is that the battery seemed to drain rather quickly; I had to replace it after only a few uses. That said, I don’t know how old the battery is nor where I procured it, so that, rather than the toy, could be the cause.
I’m convinced that the main reason to buy this (admittedly hilarious) vibrator is the reaction of the recipient, particularly if said person is one of those pirate fanatics. It’s cute, it vibrates, and it has a tiny hat. Who could ask for more? IRubMyDuckie,TravelPirate
