When doing a vibe review, the first thing to strike me isn’t usually the smell of the vibe. However, upon opening Doc Johnson’s Big Boy Toys Lighting Rod, I was overpowered by the nauseating smell of plastic. In fact the scent was so bad that I had to remove both the vibe and the open package from my bedroom just to sleep. Almost two weeks later, the scent has mostly dissipated, and I can make use of the toy. Not something I would usually mention first in a vibe review, but those with sensitive noses should beware.
After getting past the smell factor, I found the vibe delightful. It has a basic smooth design and is approximately 8” long from base to tip. Made of soft plastic, the vibe is quite flexible and therefore both ass and vagina friendly. This series of vibes is obviously designed with men in mind as indicated by both the title and the no frills design; it comes in four basic colors, silver, black, tan, and beige, in a variety of lengths. While designed with an eye for anal, the vibe is equally pleasing when applied to the clit and inner vagina. There’s a nice range of speeds, escalating from a gentle hum to mind numbing intensity. The focus of the vibrations is located in the middle to lower part of the vibe, something to note if using it for clitoral stimulation. Such focus lends itself nicely to anal orgasms, especially when used in conjunction with a steady thrust and lots of lube.
There’s nothing out of the ordinary about the appearance of this Lighting Rod, but it delivers the electrifying orgasms required. Like many of the tools designed for men, it functions just as well in the hands of a woman, offering results that are more satisfying than many other vibrators with prettier packaging. As the old adage goes, don’t judge a book by its cover and don’t judge this vibe by its plain appearance.
