When Porn Should be Laughed At
06/26/07
By Anna Kent

Porn hits the mainstream as director Kevin Smith signs with Harvey Weinstein and Miramax productions to create his next comedy flick Zack and Miri Make a Porno. The upcoming film will feature two friends venturing into the world of amateur porn production.

The movie was pitched and embraced upon the divulgence of the title alone. Trusting Smith’s popular track record with films such as Mallrats, Dogma, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Weinstein jumped at the opportunity with the offer of a $15 million budget.

The movie will tell the story Zack and Miri, friends pushing into their 30s, who find themselves faced with a distinct lack of accomplishment and more importantly, money. In an effort to pull themselves out of financial straits, the two decide to try their luck in the amateur porn industry.

As Smith describes on his blog, “My Boring Ass Life” found at SilentBobSpeaks.com, the movie is “funny, bawdy, sexy, dirty, titillating (emphasis on the tit) and dripping with heart.” Smith goes on to compare the script to a hybrid of his previous films Chasing Amy and Clerks II. The film will hopefully be released sometime in 2008.
