Jessica Bussert, who was once named Josh, has launched the largest legal claim ever over a sex change operation. Bussert is suing Hitachi Data Systems for 500,000 pounds for demoting him from a high level IT job after facial and breast surgery under sex discrimination (Gender Reassignment) regulations 1999 as well as Hitachi Data systems Japan for three million dollars.
Bussert relocated to the UK from the American Midwest believing Britain would be more accepting and understanding of transgender people. She claims that after returning from six weeks of surgery to become a woman, she was demoted and given secretarial work, though with no change in salary. A spokesperson for Hitachi UK said that they denied those allegations and would defend to the full extent of the law.
