The Journal of Medical Ethics has found that the “rhythm method” may destroy more embryos than other forms of contraception.
The “rhythm method” is the only method approved by the Catholic Church. However, it raises a vital question: Is the rhythm method any different that any other means of preventing pregnancy, such as condoms or the morning-after pill?
The rhythm method works by avoiding intercourse during the most fertile period of a woman’s menstrual cycle. It is supposed to work by preventing conception; however, embryos conceived during these infertile periods are naturally less likely to survive. Therefore, instead of preventing pregnancy, this technique may instead cause women to have pregnancies which result in embryonic death. Meaning, fertilized eggs are being flushed out during a woman’s menstrual cycle.
If that’s truly the case, the rhythm method is as or more fatal than other contraceptive devises such as the morning-after pill.
