A new study concerning censorship of the Internet has revealed that many countries are not liberated in regards to private usage. While some parts of the world have a lot of freedom, others are subject to more and more legal restrictions every day.
The study called “Governing the Internet” was conducted by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The OSCE is a 56-nation organization intended to protect freedom in the media. The organization found that many countries were continuing to implement new laws restricting Internet usage and instating punishments for violators.
In one example, Malaysia has been named as one of the restricting countries. Malaysian authorities have planned and established laws that prosecute bloggers and any other authorities that insult Islam.
Kazakhstan is another nation determined to control Internet use. Informant minister Yermukhamet Yertysbayev has promised to remove sites containing “dirt” and “lies.” Yertysbayev has openly disagreed with freedom in media in a recent interview where he stated, “Those who think it is impossible to control the Internet can continue living in a world of illusions.”
The study intends to call attention to the restriction of freedom happening in certain nations.
