Twenty-five-year-old sherpa Lakpa Tharke from Nepal stood naked for three minutes on the peak of Mount Everest. His behavior has been denounced by the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NPA). Many of the peaks have a religious significance, and his action is seen by many as defiling a sacred mountain.
The NPA has left it up to the government’s discretion what action should be taken. Mount Everest is regarded as the goddess mother earth to a great deal of the Nepalese people, and so his action could be viewed as extremely inappropriate and disrespectful.
