Last Sunday, 2,500 people crowded Athens Square Park, Astoria in support of Governor David Paterson’s Marriage Equality Bill.

They urged the support of Senator George Oronato, who represents the 12th district in Queens. Senator Oronato has opposed gay marriage, but has been open to hearing arguments on the issue. Oronato supports other gay rights, and has been quoted as saying that gay marriage incurs no social cost.

The rally was conducted by Western Queens for Marriage Equality, led by Ron Zacchi.
Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith supports the bill. The senate session ends June 22.
