According to a recent study conducted by security software company, McAfee, there are other sources to blame for the spread of PC-threatening problems. Devices such as spyware are more often downloaded to a PC after visiting a digital music site than a porn site. The study found that digital music sites have a tendency to produce these threats about 10 percent more often than adult sites.
The study ventured further into the research of safe Internet usage and found that particular search engines and search terms could expose your PC to a threat. Music file sharing sites are decidedly the least secure and therefore riskiest sites to frequent. McAfee also found Yahoo! has become the least reliable search engine for safety features while AOL is regarded as the safest. Google has been making improvements in its security in search results and is also considered a relatively safe way to search the Internet.
While the risk in file-sharing sites is not quite a new insight, there has been new speculation about what keeps adult sites off the list of the unreliable. A comment made by McAfee’s Senior Product Manager, Mark Maxwell, suggests that the top ranked adult sites are making enough money from their clientele to make security features a priority.
