Older Women Suffer More Sex Issues than Men, Says Survey
10/07/08
By A. Graves

The public blames the man and believes that he can’t get it up. They are wrong. It’s actually her fault. A survey indicated in June that women experience more sex-related problems than men.

The Duramed Pharmaceuticals’ “Sex, Menopause & Relationship” survey showed that 67 percent of women, compared to 59 percent of men, reported having symptoms that altered their ability to perform in the sack, MarketingCharts reports.

Most of the women had no idea that they would ever experience such complexities. The survey, conducted by Harris Interactive, found that only 35 percent of women, compared to 49 percent of men, braced for the day they would experience a hardware malfunction. David B. Schwartz, MD, of the Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, told MC that the survey indicated that there is a “knowledge gap” about the different issues that aging people face.

“This may be due to the volume and ease of accessibility to information about erectile dysfunction,” Schwartz told MC. “Conversely, most women face sexual symptoms as they go through menopause, with less information readily available to them.”

The survey was conducted between June 25, 2008 and July 1, 2008 on a study pool of 705 adults who were in heterosexual relationships.

While the study found that nearly 40 percent of the respondents acknowledged avoiding sex, their reasons varied. Duramed and Harris reported to MC that women blamed discomfort and pain, while men reported physical inabilities that swayed them away from doing the wild thing.
