In order to spread the word on safe-sex practices and educate the masses of the dangers of abstinence-only programs and how little effect it has in preventing people from contracting STDs, and to commemorate National Masturbation Month, the Seventh Annual Masturbate-A-Thon is slated to take place in San Francisco Saturday, May 26.
The goal of the Masturbate-A-Thon, first organized in 2000, is to foster a sex-positive environment by proving masturbation is not a sin and help support other institutions that are conducive to this view.
The event site will be divided into three areas: a place for women, for men and a mixed-gender room. Only part of each room will be webcasted to give privacy to those who are less exhibitionistic. For their efforts, the participants will be rewarded in categories ranging from Longest Time Spent Masturbating to Most Orgasms, with a new category added this year: Greatest Ejaculation Distance.
National Masturbation Month was first established in 1995 by San Francisco’s Good Vibrations, a female-friendly franchise that’s been selling adult novelties for 30 years, after former Surgeon General Dr. Jocelyn Elders was laid off for suggesting schools teach young people to masturbate as a safe-sex practice.
