The CEO of Marriott International, Bill Marriott, Jr., was the subject of an anti-porn protest at a National Press Club luncheon. The picketing specifically focused on the recent addition of pay-per-view adult programs becoming available for purchase in Marriott’s hotels.
The protest was led by Larry Cirignano, president of the Catholic Citizenship group. Cirignano made the news briefly in 2006 when he was accused of, and later admitted to, physically assaulting a woman at a rally in support of same-sex marriage.
This protest follows criticism by the Morality in Media organization, which attacked Marriott’s personal faith in the LDS church. MiM president Robert Peters told Marriott that by making adult programming available through his company, Marriott is associating pornography with his family and the LDS church, which is staunchly against pornography. Furthermore, Peters threatened that the hotel chain could face a lawsuit for obscenity if the channels are not removed from the pay-per-view lineup.
