A gay sex party for black and Latin men in which condom use is banned is scheduled to occur this Saturday, just weeks before the 25th anniversary of the AIDS epidemic. The party will be protested by Gay Men of African Descent, a Harlem-based nonprofit group battling the HIV/AIDS epidemic among black gay men.
It is estimated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that more than half of all black men who have sex with other men are HIV positive. This sort of party is extremely disturbing given the staggeringly high rate of AIDS and HIV infection among gay black men, which is twice as high as that of black women and seven times higher than that of gay white men.
This will be the third condom-less, gay, black and Latino party to occur. Anyone found using a condom will be asked to leave. Admittance is 5-10 dollars.
