The New York Supreme Court made history as Justice Joan Lefkowitz ruled in favor of recognizing Canadian gay marriages in New York.
Even though New York doesn’t currently allow gay marriages, Lefkowitz stated there is no rule disallowing the acceptance of such unions outside of New York. She went on to say countries usually acknowledge individual marriage laws granted they don’t violate public policy or disturb community values. Gay marriages, she cited, have become increasingly common in the U.S.; times are changing and it’s not a matter of offense anymore.
