Body Worlds Cadavers: Exhibitionists
07/08/09
By Pierce Delahunt

Anatomist and director of the famous Body Worlds exhibit, Gunther von Hagens showcases a couple having sex in his newest installment in Germany.

Inventor of the plastination technique for preserving muscle tissue, von Hagens assures all his cadavers have signed the necessary materials for showcase.

The couple, in reverse cowgirl, are meant to educate visitors interested in biology and anatomy, according to von Hagens; anything less would compromise science.

Von Hagens designs his exhibits for the laymen, using presentation and showmanship. Some argue this is the goal of his history of controversy, from performing the first public autopsy in England in 170 years to charging people to watch the plastination process. He also wears a trademark fedora, in reference to Rembrandt’s painting.

Three months before introducing the sexual couple, he maintained he had never dehumanized a cadaver.

It is possible to orgasm after death, though not for this plastinated couple.
